Greetings!
Do you feel like you and your dog have been spending the summer on the surface of the sun?!?
This has been a HOT, humid summer in Ohio! It's been really great to have so many dogs and their "people" coming to group class! We try to stay in the shade and make it enjoyable for everyone! We found a nice way to spend some relaxing time by taking a short trip on Sunday to Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens in Akron, OH. They offer a "Woof Walk" on most Sundays where you, your family and dog(s) can stroll around the fabulous grounds. There is not a more beautiful place in the greater Akron area to take photos of your family and dog! The photo above is taken in one of the many gardens on the property. Look for more photos of the dogs on the grounds in this newsletter!
KEEPING YOUR DOGS COOL IN THE SUMMER HEAT!
In this hot weather - take along water when you travel even short distances with your dog and offer them a drink of water often! Don't leave your dog in the car when it's so hot. When you hike, try to select a place where your dog can be in the shade or come across some water to wade in to keep from overheating! At home it can be as simple as a child's hard plastic swimming pool with cool water. Let your dog walk or romp in the small pool - dogs cool off from the bottom up! By just having your dog stand in a few inches of cool water, it will help cool down their entire body, through the pads on their feet. You can purchase these small pools at Walmart, Target, Sam's Club or at your the local discount stores and at some pet stores.
SEND US YOUR IDEAS!
Please send us your favorite places to walk YOUR dogs and take pictures! Our customer base is all of Northeastern Ohio - We would love to let others know where the "cool" places are where YOU live! Send us pictures of your dogs at your favorite place and we will post the best pictures in future newsletters along with the location! We look forward to your ideas and experiences! Send your ideas to cleveland.akron@sitmeanssit.com. Sincerely, Paul Pollock, Owner/Trainer Sit Means Sit Cleveland Akron Sit Means Sit Northeast Ohio

PATIENCE
Stan Hywet - Birch Alley
Sit Means Sit trainer, Chris Madden's dog, Kiya. Chris asked her to "sit" and he walked back to the area of sunshine in the middle of the alley and stepped out of sight. Kiya patiently "sat" until Chris invited her to join him! GOOD DOG, KiYA!! (see below) |
PATIENCE - REWARDED
Trainer Chris Madden and Kiya Our training method uses PRAISE as a solid reward for correct and good behavior.
In this photo, Kiya has waited patiently while Chris was out of sight, and then Chris stepped into view and called Kiya to him.
Beautiful behavior in a beautiful setting! |
