A Message From Our President, Ruth Forsyth:
|
"You must get involved to have an impact. No one is impressed with the won-loss record of the referee."
Napoleon Hill
At the 2012 FPA Board Strategic Planning Meeting, I asked each person why they chose to serve on the board. After all, it is a lot of time and work with no pay! Your board is busy throughout the year planning The Financial "Four"um, golf outing, monthly newsletter, NexGen programs, and multiple CE meetings. If that weren't enough, we added our "Saluting Service" event this year honoring our veterans. The answers to "why get involved" carried some common themes. Among them were:
"It's time to give back to others"
"I want to help with a positive public image for the industry"
"The ability to network with other leaders in the profession".
Every member currently serving on the board struggles with work and family obligations, yet all feel that they receive much more than they give through their Board involvement.
If YOU have ever thought you would like to be more involved in this organization, I encourage you to attend the Board Development luncheon on Tuesday, August 28th from 11:30-1:30PM at the Grand Concourse in Station Square to learn more about what we do and how you can enhance your particular skills to improve our organization.
"Don't wait, the time will never be just right."
Napoleon Hill
Sincerely,
Ruth Forsyth

2012 Heart of Financial Planning Award |
The Heart of Financial Planning Award is not just any old form of recognition. It's an esteemed acknowledgement of an individual or a gorup who has used FPA's Core Values of competence, integrity, dedication to relationship building and stewardship to contribute to the financial planning community and/or the public.
The Award recognizes indivudual professional (e.g. CFP(r), attorney, professor, journalist), financial planning firms, FPA chapters, or organizations who engage in extraordinary work, contributing and giving back to the financial planning community and the public through financial planning. Award recipients embody the heart of financial planning and represent FPA's Core Values. Award recipients will be recognized at FPA Experience 2012 as well as through other FPA media outlets (press releases, social networking sites, etc.).
It would be an honor to the individual and the Pittsburgh Chapter to have someone from our Pittsburgh membership be nominated and win this esteemed award. |
Feedback from Saluting Service: |
Darla, Ruth:
I want to thank you and the Financial Planning Association (FPA) for recognizing Veterans and making such a generous donation to VLP. I still can't get over the wonderful event at Soldiers & Sailors, the absolute fun time at Olde Stonewall, and working with you both on something that truly matters. As an example, I want to let you know that the money raised was used to help a family who showed up on our doorstep late last Friday. The family included a mom and dad (both Veterans) and three children (one with autism). They had been evicted and had been 'everywhere'--we were their last hope. Among other things we were able to help them with basics like food and shelter--keeping them from sleeping in a car or outside, a qualified referral for medical care for the autistic child, some employment help for the dad that looks like it is going to get him a job, and a number of solid referrals to other agencies that will assist them. We can't do that with most of our grant money--the unrestricted dollars you provided helped us help this family. And as I said to you...you did more that just say that FPA 'supports the troops'....your genuine concern and generosity are directly responsible for keeping a family together in a safe place to live. Who knows what may have happened to them?
Again, thank you very much. Please pass along my gratitude to everyone at FPA and I hope you have a great 4th of July.
Al
