President's Message
Who among us doesn't enjoy mixing a little business with pleasure?  Well, that's just what we have in store for our Investment Conference to be held May 19th at Diamond Run Golf Club.
Our own local media celeb, author, and investment expert, Lou Stanasolovich, will be presenting, "Generating Cash for Retirement Living Needs-Earning Returns Above Inflation and Avoiding Financial Market Losses."   After last week's wild market ride, we could all learn a little more about avoiding market losses!

Hedge Funds are still a mystery to most of our clients, so we have Dave Nelson presenting, "Using Mutual Funds to Design Hedge Fund Like Portfolio's."

Oh, and the pleasure is mingling with your FPA colleagues at a wine and cheese mixer immediately following the program.  Come join us, won't you?  And introduce yourself...I'm looking forward to meeting you!

Best Regards,

Jay

Heart of Financial Planning Awards
Do you know someone who exemplifies FPA's Core Values of integrity, competence, dedication to relationship building and stewardship?  Would you like to recognize a colleague, group or organization that has made a difference in the financial planning community?  Now is your chance! Nominations are now being considered for the Heart of Financial Planning Awards. The deadline for nominations is June 4, 2010.

Media Training
You can still receive media training in order to take advantage of opportunities to respond to requests from national and local media outlets for interviews.  Please click here to complete the mandatory media training.  Once you have completed the training, please contact Ruth Forsyth to receive the participation agreement and be added to our media response list.
As a reminder, in order to qualify to speak to reporters on behalf of FPA, you also must be a CFP in good standing, a member of FPA, and have a minimum of 3 years experience as a financial planner.

Membership Resources
Don't forget to take advantage of these great FPA membership resources:
Membership Logos.  Current FPA members in good standing can now download the new 2010 FPA Member Logo.  This new member benefit can be used on Websites, emails and member newsletters.
FPA's New Social Security Tool. Using this online tool, a person can enter in basic demographic data - age, Income, and ages of children - and the Tool will provide information on benefits they would receive under the current Social Security system (currently about 78 cents to the dollar), a healthy system, and under five different proposed fixes currently being discussed in Congress.

Golf Outing Success
Members enjoying a day of golf.
THANK YOU to all of the golfers who came out for the FPA of Pittsburgh 5th Annual Golf Outing on April 30 at Olde Stonewall Golf Club and made this year's outing another great success!

Call to Action on Professional
Services Tax

In response to Governor Rendell's proposed tax on professional services, such as financial planning, the FPA Chapters of Pittsburgh, Central Pennsylvania and Philadelphia are coordinating efforts to oppose this proposed tax.  We ask that you please take the time to sign an online petition that will be sent to the Governor's office later this month.  Click here to sign the petition.  We appreciate your support on this very important issue.

NAIFA Golf Tournament
