Light and Fast Running Gear, Part 2
April 26, 2012
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The trails are gradually clearing of snow, our runs are getting a little bit longer and we're feeling a little bit faster. As we get farther out we need gear that won't weigh us down and that we can depend on when the weather turns nasty. Here's a continuation of the fast and light running gear we have in the shop right now.
Montrail Mountain Masochist Outdry
iRunFar.com calls this shoe "the right amount of everything without being too much or too little of anything. You've got good protection, cushioning, stability, without going overboard on any of those items." We couldn't agree more, especially when we know local runner and top international ultra-marathoner Geoff Roes loves these shoes and has run in them for years. Lightweight and responsive, with medial posting for support and stability on aggressive terrain. Outdry lining gives waterproof, breathable protection. We carry men's and women's sizes, and offer the women's in a mid-height model for ankle protection on sloppy trails.
Montrail Badrock
If the Mountain Masochist is a bit too minimalist for your running style, take a look at the Badrock. Another great trail runner from Montrail, the Badrock Outdry is designed to be a lightweight, versatile shoe with plenty of cushioning. Waterproof breathable OutDry membrane shields your toes from sloppy trails and allows your foot to flex freely for a more natural stride. FluidPost adaptive and personalized pronation control tech matches the midsole's cushioning and stability to changing terrain underfoot. Variable fit system features variable width lacing for a custom-like fit and additional medial support. Gryptonite outsole designed for enhanced traction, agility, and cushioning.
You always get a custom fit when you come in to buy shoes from us. We like to treat our shoe customers with a true "hands-on" service, so that you get the best shoe fit possible. We also offer a full selection of Superfeet premium insoles.
Mountain Hardwear Men's Ghost Whisperer Jacket
The perfect runner's "just-in-case" backup shell. At a ridiculous two ounces, this is one of the lightest wind shells around. It's DWR*-coated, ultrathin nylon fabric still manages to cut even the stiffest of breezes and hold off a 20 minute shower without a leak. Minimalist design with no pockets and quarter zip anorak styling with reflective logos. Bottom line: the ultimate backcountry featherweight running shell. Outside Buyer's Guide Top Pick.
The North Face Men's and Women's Verto Jacket
Another minimalist jacket that packs down to the size of an energy bar and weighs next to nothing. If you're headed up on a ridge for a run or hike and you're not sure of the weather, but you don't want to weigh yourself down with heavy gear, grab this and stuff it in your back pocket or waist pack with your water bottle. Water and wind resistant. This is store manager Sean's favorite summer jacket. He wears it with a thin shirt OVER it to keep the fabric quiet in a strong wind.
Arc'teryx Women's Cita Jacket
Exclusively for the ladies! If your favorite trail climbs around peaks and over ridgelines, this lightweight, highly breathable jacket will come in handy for battling misty mornings and cloud-choked afternoons. Built for moving fast in chilly conditions, with a beautiful anatomical fit that will keep your core temperature steady as you crest a windy rise or encounter a cool mountain drizzle. Active styling features a long "drop back" for extra rain protection in the mountains or on a bike. This beautiful little jacket packs away in it's own pocket for easy carrying.
We can't wait to show off all of our new, light running gear to you, so come in soon to check everything out. We are well stocked RIGHT NOW, so try to get in before the summer season hits and downtown gets busy with visitors. Parking on Saturdays is always free, and if you need help understanding the lovely downtown parking meters during the week, just ask us to help you. Your first two hours of parking on the street are free, but you have to register your car.
We have a tremendous selection of our regular hiking, camping, and climbing gear and will feature more of that next time around. In the meantime, we'll look for you out on the trails as everyone gets ready for another summer season of playing in the mountains.
