SEPTEMBER 2011

Welcome to the September edition of the Year 2 @ Tech newsletter.

This issue covers programs to help get your sophomore year off to the right start.  From the Should You Change Your Major? Workshop, to the SAA Kick-off, and 2nd Annual GT 2.0: Sophomore Programs Week, there is a lot to look forward to during your second year at Tech.

I am always willing to meet with any sophomore who has ideas for programs or services to support sophomores, or if you have concerns as you begin your Fall semester.  You can stop by my office located in the Office of New Student & Sophomore Programs on the 3rd floor of the ISyE Annex Building, room 346A (starting 9/16 the office will be moved to the Smithgall Student Services Building, Suite 141) or send me an e-mail at eric.tack@vpss.gatech.edu.

Should You Change Your Major? Workshop

Picking a major is one of the most important decisions you can make in your life.  Sometimes changing your major is not as difficult as it seems.  A panel of academic advisors from each of the Colleges at Georgia Tech will be present to discuss the pros and cons of changing your major, the paperwork and procedures necessary to change your major, and how this decision will impact your time at GT and your future career.

Tuesday, September 13th
11 a.m. - Noon

Student Center Crescent Room

SAA Kick-Off September 15th

SAALast year the Student Alumni Association (SAA) launched on 9.9.10 and in one year SAA becoming the largest student organization on campus with 2,056 members.  Throughout the year, these students gave back over $30,280 to the Tech community, made thousands of connections with Tech alumni, and had the opportunity to gain over $900 worth of free stuff. For those of you who were members last year, you must renew every year and if you were not a member last year, and want to sign up, go to www.gtsaa.com/join. So What are You Waiting For?

On September 15th SAA is going to have a big kick-off event again from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at 7 locations all around campus.  Each location will have alumni volunteers engaging with students, a theme highlighting SAA strategic initiatives, and free food/giveaways.  Waffle House, Coke, Tin Drum, Varsity and Chick-fil-A are among several that have already signed to hand out food at the locations.  In the evening 2011-2012 SAA members will be invited to the ultimate networking event on Tech Tower Lawn where they can meet more alumni and enjoy URestaurants owner/chef and Tech Grad, Riccardo Ullio's food.
