Judy Citko Spreads Word on Advance Care Planning

Zócalo Public Square recently featured Judy Citko (CCCC Executive Director), Lisa Krieger (San Jose Mercury News), Shirley Otis-Green (City of Hope) and Ken Murray, author of the original article "How Doctors Die" on a panel about end-of-life issues.  View the entire presentation and hear the panelist discuss why doctors die so differently from the rest of us and how we can begin to discuss death more openly. 

 

CA's Approach to POLST Implementation Featured in New Study

Read about CCCC's innovative approach to implementation of POLST in nursing homes across the state.  The study showed that 82% of nursing facilities reported that their staff had received education about POLST, and that most nursing homes have a POLST champion and policy in place. Dr. Neil Wenger, UCLA, was lead author of the study.

Meg McClaskey Joins CCCC

CCCC would like to welcome Meg McClaskey,MDiv, BCC, as a new Program Manager. Meg, who will coordinate CCCC's Thinking Ahead Project, is a board certified chaplain. Meg has moved to Sacramento from Illinois where she most recently served as the Ethics Consultant & Manager of Spiritual Care Services at both Northwest Community Hospital and Rush North Shore Medical Center.

 

Free Help to Reduce Nursing Home Transfers

CCCC and the USC Davis School of Gerontology are looking for nursing homes in the Los Angeles area who want to reduce avoidable readmissions and improve POLST quality. Nursing homes are invited to enroll in a study, funded by the Archstone Foundation, that compares three different courses on POLST (Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment).
