World Affairs Council of Las Vegas - March Newsletter
World Affairs Council of Las Vegas
March 2011
 Greetings!

March is turning into our most exciting month yet. Next week, after a three year hiatus, the World Affairs Council will once again hold the Academic WorldQuest Competition in Las Vegas. Our many thanks to The Meadows School for serving as the venue.

The following week, we look forward to bringing you a very exciting program with American  Roxanna Saberi, the daughter of an Iranian father and Japanese mother. After the young journalist left North Dakota to pursue her writing in Iran, she was imprisoned there while conducting research for her articles.  Her presentations and book provide a riveting revelation of the Iranian prison environment. She is a talented, engaging speaker and we are very pleased that she has agreed to include the Las Vegas World Affairs Council in her book tour.

Additionally, we are announcing a new free program for our dues paying members in conjunction with the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Ft. Worth and the Economist.

Finally, we're delighted with the tremendous response to the "Spotlight on Turkey" professional development workshop for high school teachers which we'll be hosting on April the 2nd at CSN .  Through the sponsorship of the Turkish Cultural Foundation, 35 teachers will be afforded a full one day workshop to experience Turkish culture, history and cuisine. There is already a waiting list
for this program.
