At Sawyer, we are constantly receiving amazing stories from individuals and organizations that are using our filters in 50+ countries. There's no sense in keeping those stories to ourselves so we would like to share them with all of you through our monthly E-newsletter. We will be using this newsletter to share testimonials from our partners, updates from Sawyer including new product developments and programs, as well as updates on the scientific study being conducted by Food for the Hungry (FH) in Bolivia. For an entire year, FH will be analyzing the Sawyer PointONE filter's effect on health in over 3,000 Bolivian homes, as well as analyzing the most effective means of education and communication when it comes to hygiene and sanitation.

We hope you will find these stories both educational and inspiring in whatever role you may play in solving this global water crisis.

 Excitement in Kenya

The following video was provided by MAP International (www.map.org). In this situation, a picture is worth a thousand words. Watch the expressions as Map International's Kenya team witnesses the filter turning muddy lake water into clean drinking water

A Breakthrough in Guatemala
Mike Glick in Guatemala
Mike Glick is a missionary with CAM International in Guatemala. Somehow several of our filters made it into his hands and completely changed the way he does ministry. "This, to me, was one of the biggest highlights of my time here in Guatemala! I have been trying to get into this neighborhood for two years, now I am finding credibility and trust from the people there. God is doing great things, and there are many more great things to come!" What's New with Sawyer

Micro Business Program- As a part of our sustainability plan, we are excited to announce our new micro business program...the Sawyer Build a Business Program. We are now working with NGO's to set up micro businesses in other countries where individuals are otherwise purchasing bottled water, fuel or wood to boil water, medicines to treat diseases from bad water etc. The market for this product is enormous and this plan offers a unique solution to bettering health, and creating jobs at the same time. For more information on how to get involved please email pointonefilter@sawyer.com

 Insect Repellent Special

Having a good insect repellent is a must have on a mission trip and we want to help you out with those needs. If you are interested in purchasing our repellents for your team at a discounted price, please email amy@sawyer.com.
 Permethrin
Sawyer's insect repellents are the best on the market and because of that, we proudly supply the US military with repellents, as well as private label repellents for prominent US retail stores like REI.

Our number one recommendation for an insect repellent is Permethrin. Permethrin is an insect repellent treatment for clothing which has led to not only excellent protection for our troops and recreational users, but is adapted to use on mosquito nets now being widely used in developing countries to combat Malaria.  Sawyer was pleased to have conducted the underlying studies with the WHO and have earned our place as the number one brand of permethrin in the retail stores.

Treating your clothes with Permethrin is the single most important thing to do to protect yourself from the bugs before leaving on your trip. Permethrin is a contact insecticide/repellent that repels and kills ticks, mosquitoes and other insects when it comes in contact with them. When applied to clothing, tents, bed sheets and mosquito nets, the Permethrin binds to the fabric and creates an odorless and invisible barrier that lasts for 6 weeks. Learn more about our insect repellents at www.sawyer.com.

Helpful Hints

In this section we will share with you helpful hints we've learned along the way from our partners. These hints and recommendations will help you get the best results from your filter. If you have any recommendations please email them to pointonefilter@sawyer.com.

· If water is very dirty and full of particulate, we recommend the system with a 1 ft hose (SP180) rather than the 3 ft hose (SP1803). Although the 3 ft hose has a faster flow rate, it will be harder to backwash when filtering very dirty water.Pouring Water

· If water is very dirty and full of particulate, use a cloth to pre-filter the water.

· If water is very dirty and full of particulate, let the water stand in a separate container for a day and then decant the water from the top.

· When using very dirty water, backwash the filter after every bucketful or at least daily.

· Do not store your bucket system or backwash syringe in the sun. UV rays may damage the plastic over time.

· Keep the top of the bucket covered, but not sealed.

· When drilling the hole, make sure to de-burr (remove all excess plastic) from the hole. Not having a clean hole can cause a leak.

· If bucket leaks at the fitment, try moving the o-ring to the inside of the bucket.

· Only run water through the filter and not food products.

· More questions? see our FAQs page
