The Junior League of Buffalo, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

Dear Members, As we begin the holiday season, I can't help but think of how thankful I am for the exceptional women with whom I volunteer alongside. Our community is a better place because of your effectiveness, professionalism, creativeness, commitment to our organization, and to each other. On a daily basis, I am witness to our members' enthusiasm and excitement for the work they do. Over the next couple of months, we will be holding a new fundraiser, continuing work on our Community Impact Issue, exploring ways to expand our community impact, training and educating over 40 Provisional Class members, and awarding over $200,000 to a well-deserving community project. The Junior League of Buffalo has a long, proud history of accomplishments, and I look forward to a memorable 2012, as well.
Our Casino Night Committee, headed by Chrisi Pearl, has some exciting plans for the Spring... They have created an incredibly sleek logo, secured a fabulous venue, and locked in the perfect date. We will soon be looking for sponsors for this inaugural, fun-filled event. We look forward to more details at our January GMM.
The Show House Proceeds Committee, under the leadership of Kristy Gossel and Cindy Vance, are in the process of identifying potential recipients. They are now in the second stage of the application process. We will look forward to our proceeds vote in March!
Our Community Council continues its work with the Life Coach program, as well as with researching future ideas for member involvement. As we have communicated many times before, this is not one project, but an entire issue we are working on. We welcome your ideas and suggestions for even more involvement and activities to support Female Heads of Households Living in Poverty.
President-Elect applications are currently being accepted. For those of you considering the position, but hesitant about the three year commitment, I'd like to remind you that with our new Board structure, the role of President-Elect has been greatly revised to focus on shadowing and training, as opposed to administrative duties. Your President-Elect year will be a gradual learning experience.
It's never too early to start thinking about your future League opportunities and roles. Our Nominating Committee is also looking for members interested in League financial leadership positions to shadow the Financial VP and treasurer and learn more about these positions. We are also looking for members interested in working on upgrading our technology. Please speak with Sarah Snyder, our Membership VP, if interested in any of these roles. We are fast approaching the half-way point of our League year. Part of our mission is to develop our members, to train and to teach. I urge all our members to look at the plans or goals you have made for this year and measure your progress. Are you where you want to be? How can you make the most out of your League experience?
We rang in the holiday season with the well-attended Provisional Cocktail Party last week and look forward to our Annual Members' Holiday Party on December 13th. Blending work and play seems to come naturally to our members, doesn't it? If you haven't already made a reservation and paid for it, please make sure you do so immediately.
A huge thank you to Melissa Rodemeyer, who always does a fantastic job publishing our monthly Perspectus!! We encourage you to submit articles on anything your committee may be working on, and remember we always love pictures!
I look forward to seeing many of you next week at our always-festive Holiday Party! Look for the Buffalo Dining Cards table--great for last minute gifts--and also at the Council's fantastic Basket Raffle.
On behalf of the 2011-2012 Junior League of Buffalo Board of Directors, we wish you Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!

Show House Proceeds Update
Submitted by Kristy Gossel
The 2011 Show House Proceeds Committee is working diligently in order to present to the Junior League Membership in March the very best candidates to be the recipients of up to $219,000 of the proceeds from this year's Decorators' Show House. We received close to 50 preliminary applications and have asked 7 local agencies to complete a final application. After reviewing these, we will conduct interviews and site visits during the month of January with those the committee chooses to move forward. We will then meet as a committee to determine which of the agencies will be asked to present to the Junior League members on March 20. Prior to that date, the committee will ensure that each agency is prepared to deliver the best possible presentation to our membership.
Please save the date of March 20, 2012 for our very critical voting meeting regarding Show House Proceeds! The committee has worked hard thus far to ensure that we choose candidates to benefit from these funds who are well qualified, exciting, and who make significant contributions to our community. The vote is up to you!

November's ODI in Orlando a Rewarding Experience
Submitted by Kim Kadziolka On November 4-6, 2011, the Junior League of Buffalo was well represented at AJLI's Organizational Development Institute (ODI) in sunny Orlando, Florida. Kim Kadziolka, Brooke Smith, and Nancy Reimann attended the conference, whose theme was "Transformation: Taking Action towards Diversity and Inclusion," and brought home with them an excitement for the future of JLB. Each followed different tracks, which included "Creating Tomorrow's Community Leaders," "Identifying & Building Powerful Community Projects," and "New Strategies and Tools for Nominating." Meeting Junior League members from across the United States and Canada, as well as London, England, was a highlight for the women, who returned inspired and ready to share their excitement with the rest of JLB. |
