Dear Members,
We have a great meeting scheduled this month, on November 16, at Nichols School. I hope you will attend this voting meeting and participate in discussions about our Impact Issue, as well as about Member Approved Policies relative to Show House Proceeds voting. if you're an Active Member, you should have received an agenda and letter in the mail. Sustaining Members will receive a copy via email. In either case, if you would like a copy of the meeting materials and don't have them yet, please call headquarters so we can update your mailing information and get you what you need.
Speaking of headquarters, if you use the space, please be sure to lock up and set the alarm. We've had great usage of our property, which is wonderful, but we need to preserve the safety and security of the space, and more importantly, of our members and employee.
You should receive your invitation to our annual Holiday Party shortly. The celebration will take place on December 21 at Park Country Club, and I hope to see you all there! We will have our traditional basket raffle to benefit the 1919 Fund. The Fund is quite close to our goal of $100,000, and we hope to announce soon that we've reached that amount.
Show House 2011 is well underway. We have a great property, which has already had its garden transformed and been cleaned up in preparation for spring. It was wonderful to see so many volunteers out last Saturday helping at the estate, digging in, getting dirty, and contributing to the success of Show House.
Many thanks to Melissa Rodemeyer for getting Perspectus out on a monthly basis! It's a great way for us all to keep in touch--please keep the submissions coming.
Best,
Beth Montague |

The 2010 - 2011 Provisional Class Tours the City
Submitted by Maureen Hanagan
 | Front: Gina LaPlante, Denine Jackson; Back: Michelle Fiorella, Hillary Banas |
The provisional class has been very busy learning about League life. A huge thanks is offered to Alisa LaPlante, 2010 - 2011 Provisional Advisor, who coordinated all the details and did an amazing job planning the Provisional Bus Tour! | | From L to R: Gina LaPlante, Michelle Fiorella, Amela Dedajic, Ann Marie Williams, Katie McKenna |
Thirty-four Provisionals and the Provisional Committee met at headquarters on Saturday morning, October 30, to take an area tour of locations and agencies important to the JLB. The class voted on the agencies it wanted to visit, which included Compass House (Sylvia Nadler, Executive Director); Child & Family Services (Laurie Krajna, Chief Development Officer), and EPIC (Jeffrey Bell, National Director of Development and Grant Compliance).
The tour also included a surprise stop at the site of the 2010 - 2011 Junior League Show House on Depew St., where Junior League Actives and Sustainers replaced

their pearls and white gloves with winter hats and gardening gloves and were very busy cleaning up the grounds. A special thanks is offered to Astrid Willis for taking the time to walk the class through the house.
Additionally, a visit was a made to the Darwin Martin House. It was a fun and informative day and nice to take the tour full circle by visiting various agencies and seeing the Show House in its "before" condition. The busy day wrapped up around 1:00 p.m.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Much like last year, the Provisional Class will be meeting before General Meetings from 5:30 - 6:30. If you are able, please take a minute to introduce yourself to new members.

In 1921, The Junior League of Buffalo purchased a thrift shop for $1 from the Red Cross and opened the first League Thrift Shop in the country. Its second location on Elmwood Avenue closed in November 2006 after a proud, eighty-five year history: It was the longest running League Thrift Shop at the time of its closing.
