We just returned from beatiful South Lake Tahoe where we attended our biennual California Young Democrats (CYD) retreat. SVYDers participated in a chapter building clinic customized for our club, attended trainings to prep us for the health care fight and 2010 races, networked with young democrats and candidates from around the state, and had a great time bonding with our members. We sponsored 6 members to attend and provided free lodging for 15 of our members. To support this trip, and future trips like this, please contribute to our upcoming fundraiser, info below.
Our next meeting will feature special guests to speak on the Latino Leadership Alliance and a presentation on Instant Run-Off Voting (IRV). Make sure to mark your calendars: Monday, November 16 at 7p.m., UFCW Local 5, 240 South Market, San Jose. As always, free dinner!

Maine Campaign Invasion - Free trips to fight for Marriage Equality |
The California Young Democrats are teaming up with great groups like Travel for Change to send 1000 Young Democrats to Maine to work on the ground. We will register young voters to vote against Maine's Prop 1, their version of California's Prop 8, a measure that would strip marriage rights from gay couples in Maine. Generous employees from Jet Blue are donating stand-by tickets for volunteers to travel for free and housing will also be provided. Flights leave Friday and return Wednesday. Note: if you cannot stay through election day, they cannot accomodate you. To sign up email Jennifer Longley at jlongley@youngdems.org. Send her your name, email, phone number, airport you'd like to fly out of (local options: Oakland - OAK, San Francisco - SFO, San Jose - SJC) and tell her you are a member of SVYD.
