Local Venue Cancels Show of Anti-Gay Artist
This week we found out reggae singer Buju Banton, whose lyrics call for violence against gay people, was scheduled to perform at the VooDoo Lounge in downtown San Jose. Due to the actions of the San Jose Human Rights Commission, their city staff support, and other activists in our community, the VooDoo Lounge canceled this show. Please take a minute to thank the commission at hrc@sanjoseca.gov and the VooDoo Lounge at
Want to network?
Fellow SVYDer, Jim Cogan, has graciously offered to sponsor two young dems to every Century Club Luncheon. This monthly meeting is a great networking opportunity, as it draws many elected officials, non-profit leaders, and labor activists. The November meeting will feature Congresswoman Anna Eshoo and the December meeting will be a Holiday gathering with all of electeds in attendence, from city to federal office. This offer is first-com, first serve, so email Jim right away to claim your seats.

Greetings!

Campaign Update
SVYD is helping in three important races this fall: a local city council race and two out of state races.

Daniel Nguyen is a young democrat running for Cupertino City Council. He needs grassroots support with contacting voters by phone and in person. Help him by signing up here.

We are volunteering for Creigh Deeds for Virginia Governor and Jon Corzine for New Jersey Governor by calling voters in those respective states. These races will show how much support Democratic candidates have going into the 2010 elections. If you want to help elect these two great Democrats, fill out this form.
