President's Message

This will be my last newsletter as the President of the Nevada County Tea Party Patriots. I have served in this position, officially and unofficially since February 27, 2009. During that time so many good things have happened that I can't list them all here. Besides all the positive impact that we have made in our community, our state and around the country, the most impressive thing of all is YOU. You have come together as a united front fighting for the benefit of all Americans, Americans of all faiths, all colors, all ages and all political parties.

You have started the new American Revolution based on the principles of our Founding Fathers. You have already changed the political conversation around our country. We have seen those changes taking place and history will note what you have done. You have changed America.

In reality, we are just at the very beginning of this movement even though it seems like we have been at it a very long time. The original American Revolution took around nine years to complete. And like our movement, there were some setbacks.

In every war there are significant battles that must be won. Our most important battle coming up is the primaries in 2012. We must elect people that represent our Conservative values.   This part alone can determine the future of our country. Then comes what may be the final battle of our lifetime, the 2012 General Election.

This will be the battle for the very soul of our country. YOU must be willing to take part in this epic battle. You cannot, and must not, expect others to do your part. You must say NO to those who wish to turn this country into a gray Socialist wasteland. It will happen if you do nothing. Every one of us must take part for us to survive as a great country.

It has been a great honor working with each of you. You have become my friends and family and I will treasure the memories we have created together and those we will create in the future.

God Bless each of you.

SAVE THE DATES.  NEW MEETING VENUE.
by Nanci Garcia

We are starting off 2012 with a bang!

Our first luncheon will be on Wednesday, January 11, 2012.

It will be held in the dining/gym area of the Calvary Bible Church, 11481 Highway 174 in Grass Valley (near Empire Mine). This is a wonderful venue for us, just minutes off Highway 49 with ample parking both in front and behind the church. The room is very large and will accommodate our luncheon diners with room to spare. The very large kitchen is a cook's dream with multiple ovens, large working areas and well selected equipment.

The meeting will be a mixture of excitement and nostalgia. Congressman Tom McClintock will speak about the coming elections and our efforts to bring about a change in our government. If the re-formed districts hold, this may be our good-bye and thank you to our good congressman. Let us show him how much we appreciate his hard work both in the district and in Washington!

Our evening meeting will be on January 22nd and we plan to launch our agenda for success in the 2012 elections. If you want to bring about change, this will be one of our most important meetings of the year. Circle your calendar today!!

What are the key issues for 2012?

written by John  Hindraker at Powerline Blog 12/2/11

I got a call today from a man who wants to run against Keith Ellison in Minnesota's Fifth District. He seems like a good candidate and I suspect that he will get the nomination and that we will have more to say about him here. What I liked even more than his background (African-American born in the South Bronx, retired Marine officer) was his focus on what I think are the key issues: jobs and economic growth. Those words, in my opinion, are the talisman for 2012.

Yahoo News is running a poll on what is the top issue for 2012. The results, I think, are revealing. Yahoo News is a left-leaning site and its survey, like any internet poll, is unscientific. Yet when more than a quarter of a million people vote, the results are not meaningless. Here is where the voting currently stands:

These results are striking. Jobs (my vote) win in a landslide. In second place is "role of government," which I take to be shorthand for "Tea Party." Everything else is way behind. Income inequality gets 10%; those are the hard core liberals, but they aren't numerous enough to scare anyone. Taxes are right behind at 9%. Some people care about immigration and health care-8% each-but those are secondary concerns at best, and education (3%), foreign policy (3%) and environment (dead last at 2%) are footnotes.

So, the bottom line is: any Republican candidate who doesn't talk 24/7 about jobs and economic growth, in the context of getting government out of the way, is crazy.

Agenda 21 and the Threat in Your Backyard
by Mike Brownfield, Heritage Foundation Morning Bell, 12/5/11

Ready to trade in your car for a bike, or maybe a subway instead? Interested in fewer choices for your home, paying more for housing, and being crammed into a denser neighborhood? You can have all this and more if radical environmentalists and "smart growth" advocates have their way and local, state, and the federal government impose the policies set forth in the United Nations' Agenda 21.

You might have heard of this nefarious-sounding policy in a recent Republican presidential debate, but even if you haven't, here's some background information: Agenda 21 is a voluntary plan adopted at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. It calls on governments to intervene and regulate nearly every potential impact that human activity could have on the environment. The end goal? Getting governments to "rethink economic development and find ways to halt the destruction of irreplaceable natural resources and pollution of the planet."

As adopted, Agenda 21 was described as "a comprehensive plan of action to be taken globally, nationally and locally by organizations of the United Nations System, Governments, and Major Groups in every area in which human impacts on the environment." That includes hundreds of specific goals and strategies that national and local governments are encouraged to adopt. And that translates into restrictive zoning policies that are aimed at deterring suburban growth. Ultimately, they suppress housing supply and drive up home prices, in turn imposing unnecessary costs, especially on middle- and lower-income households. These policies contributed to and aggravate the real estate bubble by putting inflationary pressures on housing prices.

But here's the catch: Nothing about Agenda 21 is binding, and it's not a threat in and of itself. Instead, the threat Americans need to be concerned about is the one that lies in their own backyard. In a new paper, "Focus on Agenda 21 Should Not Divert Attention from Homegrown Anti-Growth Policies," Wendell Cox, Ronald Utt, Brett Schaefer explain:

"Opponents of Agenda 21 should not be distracted from the more tangible manifestation of the smart-growth principles outlined in that document. If they focus excessively on Agenda 21, it is much more likely that homegrown smart-growth policies that date to the early 1970s and undermine the quality of life, personal choice, and property rights in American communities will be implemented by local, state, and federal authorities at the behest of environmental groups and other vested interests."

In the United States, smart-growth policies started in California and Oregon but then spread around the country to "deter suburban growth for all but the well-to-do," as Cox, Utt, and Schaefer explain. They also write that those policies were not without detrimental impact: As they became more prevalent and restrictive, their impact on housing prices and construction likewise expanded. An explosion of exclusionary zoning throughout the U.S. encouraged many communities to adopt zoning policies to ensure that they maintained a certain demographic 'profile.' Such zoning limited real estate development to higher-cost homes in order to 'price out' moderate-income households, which included a disproportionate share of minorities.

Where do these home-grown smart-growth policies stand today? The Obama Administration has embraced them while also increasing environmental regulations and restrictions on the use of natural resources. But the White House isn't the only one behind the smart-growth movement. Local and state officials, along with interest groups, are promoting the policies at all levels of government.

And that's where smart growth must also be thwarted. It's not just a matter of standing against the implementation of Agenda 21 at the national level; it's also about protecting our own backyards against the home-grown threat.
