President's Message

By Stan Meckler

It was amazing!!!!!!

The Tea Party Patriots began in February 2009 with protests around the country, and we grew.  We then had our first major protests around the country with over a million of us in the streets on April 15, 2009.  We grew and grew and kept growing and growing.  We let the powers in Washington, in all the state capitols, and at the local levels, that we were here to stay no matter what they said about us.  And, we kept growing and demanding that we be heard.  Then on November 2, 2010 we were heard loud and clear.  It was the biggest change in congress since 1938.  We told our elected representatives that we would not allow them to conduct business as usual.  Are they now doing what they promised?  You need to be the judge and let them know how you feel.

So, what's the next step?  The Tea Party Patriots have a 40 year plan.  That's right, 40 years!  The Tea Party Patriots held a Policy Summit in Phoenix to explain exactly what we believe needs to be done to get back to the principles of our founding fathers based on the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and Bill of Rights.  We must have fiscal responsibility in our government at all levels.  We must have a limited constitutional government.  And, we must have free markets where everyone has the chance to succeed without government over-regulation.  We must insist that all government entities answer to the people, you and me.

The Policy Summit brought together Patriots from all around this country and some from foreign countries.  We had almost 3,000 people in attendance plus an equal amount watching via the internet.  We were fortunate to meet so many people like us, with the same dreams for our great country.  They were all positive that, together, we can and will accomplish what others say is impossible.  We have already proven that we can accomplish anything we set our mind to do.

We listened to presidential candidates, new congressmen, established congressmen, and many speakers who you would readily recognize from television and radio.  There were media from across our country and from around the world.  The crowds were involved and courteous, and when someone strayed from what we believe in they were informed loud and clear that they needed to rethink their positions.  That's a great thing about we Patriots, we tell it like it is!

Presidential candidates that spoke included Herman Cain, Congressman Ron Paul, and Governor Tim Pawlenty. They all made very good presentations. In a straw poll taken after the event, Herman Cain came in first with Ron Paul a close second.  Others on the ballot were Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, and Mitt Romney,

The key speakers were Dick Morris, Ralph Reed, Brent Bozell, Sheriff Joe Arpaio from Arizona, Congressman Louie Gohert, Congressman Rob Woodall, Congressman Joe Barton, Brad Dacus from the Pacific Legal Foundation, John Fund from the Wall Street Journal, Ex-Congressman Ernest Istook, Daniel Mitchell from the Cato Institute, Congressman John Shadegg and many others. They all made good to great presentations.

Between the general sessions we went to break-out sessions.  There were usually five to six going on at any given time.  We picked our favorites and went to them.  I would have loved to attend them all but there wasn't the time.  I'll just mention a few here; Border security and immigration, Media bias, Fundraising, Debt ceiling, U.S Constitution, Communications, How to change the culture, Congressional Accountability  plus at least 30 others.

In the next few days you will be getting links to some terrific sites that will give you more details about the event and speakers.  We will also send you video links

LaMalfa Announces Formation of Taxpayers Caucus

State Senator Doug LaMalfa has joined other state lawmakers to announce the formation of the Taxpayers Caucus, which has been formed as a coalition of legislators who believe that California's taxpayers need stronger representation in the state Capitol.

"Every pro-spending group and special interest in the state has advocates in the Capitol, so I think it's high time that those who pay the bills have strong representation, too," said the Senator. "California's government needs a reality check to remind it that taxpayers simply can't afford to keep funding lavish entitlements, especially when they're having trouble keeping their own heads above water."

A non-partisan group, the Taxpayers Caucus will work to support taxpayer protections like Proposition 13, propose tax cuts that create jobs and drive budget negotiations toward a balanced budget that doesn't rely on new spending or accounting gimmicks.

The Tea Party is Winning

From Powerline, 2/21/11 by Steven Hayward

There's an old Abbott and Costello routine where Lou Costello responds to one of Bud Abbott's propositions with the rejoinder, "That's a great idea! In fact, I was just about to think of it myself." That's how I felt about Roger Kimball's observations about the scene in Wisconsin yesterday, especially the observation about the irony that this showdown is taking place in Madison, named for the founder who warned us about the dangers of factions acting against the public interest.

I agree with Roger that this is a watershed moment. I think it is George Will who supplies the appropriate term for what we are seeing: "reactionary liberalism." The petulant public employee unions and their associated goons swarming the Wisconsin capitol remind me of nothing so much as George Wallace blocking the schoolhouse door against integration, or the scenes, played out on national television in the early 1960s, of Democratic politicians whipping up mobs and setting dogs on civil rights marchers in the South. It was a clear sign the old order, also dedicated to preserving illegitimate privilege, was collapsing.

There's another rough parallel that comes to mind. The early 1990s witnessed a crop of big-city mayors who threw out the old way of doing things and proved that it was possible to govern large cities effectively, especially with regards to crime, but also in other ways. Rudy Giuliani gets the most nods, along with Indianapolis mayor Steve Goldsmith, but there were also reformist Democratic mayors like Milwaukee's John Norquist, and Cory Booker right now in Newark (both champions of school choice, incidentally). Christie in New Jersey, Walker in Wisconsin, and other new governors look to be reprising that reformist role on the state level right now. Some Democrats may follow. Right now Andrew Cuomo looks like the Democrat most likely to break with the old order of his party, but don't count out Jerry Brown.

Finally, if you need any more evidence that things are changing, just check out E.J. Dionne today in the Washington Post. He's unhappy that "The Tea Party Is Winning":

Take five more steps back and you realize how successful the Tea Party has been. No matter how much liberals may poke fun at them, Tea Party partisans can claim victory in fundamentally altering the country's dialogue.

More Efforts To Limit Drilling and Ban Fishing

By Randi Briggs

Here's the latest solicitation from the Ocean Conservancy:

"Dear Friend of the ocean,
Our hard work to help California create the first statewide network of underwater parks is under attack.
That's why we need your immediate action today. Please add your name to our petition to California Jerry Brown:  urge him to support the new marine protected areas that are already working to protect our coast.

Because of your ongoing support, California is on the verge of achieving our nation's first statewide network of underwater parks. When completed, this science-based, ecosystem approach to conservation will protect California's most iconic ocean biodiversity hotspots-from the kelp forest of La Jolla to the underwater canyons of Big Sur and the seabird colonies and seal rookeries of the Farallon Islands. Because nearly 90% of the coast will remain open for fishing, it's a win-win for Californians, visitors, and the communities and wildlife that rely on a healthy and thriving ocean ecosystem."

We need to start addressing items like this if we want to be able to drill - ever.  The idea of underwater parks sounds nice, but the reality is that this is an attempt to make the entire coast an underwater park. This translates to no hope of ever being able to get to any resources ever. It also touts that 90% of the area will still be fishable. I suggest that they will not stop there, and that the end goal is to make the coasts unusable except to the eco-elite. They will never stop designating more and more areas as underwater parks, and more and more of our food and energy sources will become untouchable.  These areas have been there since the beginning of time without the help of environmentalists and will remain there long after we are gone.

Call the Govenor of Ca. and let him know we need the resources, the oil and the fishing.  Our gas prices are rising daily, as are food prices. Myself, I'm unwilling to give up eating or getting to work in my car. Call the Govenor and tell him enough is enough.
