July 4th Celebration

CA Organizers News
Greetings!

We have two great events planned for the month of July. Once again we will be marching in the July 4th parade. This year it is in Nevada City. (see the article below for details)

On July 10th you will have the opportunity to view the movie, "Tea Party, the documentary". It's the story of how the Tea Party Patriots began and features some of the key players. MapQuest will not get you there. Please access the Lucchesi Winery website for directions. It's going to be a great evening . . . I promise!

 July 4th Celebration!

Last year our 4th of July float was the talk of Nevada County. This year it's going to be bigger and better than ever. Mark Meckler, the co-founder of the Tea Party Patriots, will be leading the parade again.

In 2009 we had over 200 Tea Party Patriots in red shirts marching with us plus antiques cars and motorcycles. Some people wore period costume. Everyone that participated had a great time.

We'd like you to join us this year and help us make our presence known to all. You don't have to be a member to join us in the parade. Just show up with friends and family in a red shirt. NCTPP red shirts and hats will be available at the float. Bring your flags and banners and other patriotic items. Last year the kids that joined up really enjoyed themselves. We still need several 3' x 4" American flags to decorate our float.

The float is designed for people who can't walk the parade or would rater ride, and also for young children.

We will meet at 1 pm at space 16 on East Broad Street as our starting point. The parade will begin promptly at 2 pm. We cannot load anyone on the float once the parade begins. Parking and shuttle service is available at the Rood Center on Highway 20 in Nevada City.

Please make sure your signs and banners are appropriate for all, including children.

Immediately after the parade we will be setting up a booth at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. If you would like to help at the booth, just show up at space #22. We look forward to seeing you there.

Decorating Committee:
If you would like to help us decorate our float and have lunch with us, show up at 10 AM at the Nevada City Carriage Company. Their address is 421 Uren Street in Nevada City. If you are coming from Grass Valley, get off Highway 49 at Uren, make two right turns & you'll be there. Parking should be on the same side of the street at the NC Carriage Company.

Caution - The Constitution Is Still Relevant
by Mark Meckler

"The idea that the Constitution is somehow dated and less relevant today is outrageous," opines The Heritage Foundation's Brandon Stewart. "The simple, noble principles enshrined in the Constitution have never been more relevant than they are today."

Unfortunately, many on the left have taken issue with this fact.

Consider Wilder Publications, publisher of a recent anthology of Founding texts, including the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. This "book" comes with a printed disclaimer stating that these self-evident truths may not be so true any longer. Reader beware!

"This book is a product of it time and does not reflect the same values as it would if it were written today. Parents may wish to discuss with their children how views on race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and interpersonal relations have changed since this book was written before allowing them to read this classic work".

This is utterly ridiculous. These ideas are not dangerous; they're liberating. These values don't expire; they're eternal. These truths are not exclusive; they're universal.

Based on reader reviews, Amazon.com customers appear to agree. What do you think?

As Heritage's Matthew Spalding explains in his new book, We Still Hold These Truths:

To this day, so many years after the American Revolution, these principles-proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence and promulgated by the United States Constitution-still define us as a nation and inspire us as a people. They are responsible for a prosperous and just nation unlike any in the world...

A warning to readers is not necessary, explains Spalding, because the documents themselves are "a warning to tyrants and despots everywhere." To say they are no longer relevant is to undermine the fact that "it is because of these principles, not despite them, that America has achieved its greatness."

In its disclaimer, Wilder Publications warns, "No part of this book may be used or reproduced..." The values enshrined in these works ought to be reproduced time and time again.

Sincerely,

Mark Meckler,
Tea Party Patriots National Coordinator
