Unplug the Political Machine

The California Tea Party Patriots have begun our drive to "Unplug the Political Machine".  This is the ballot imitative that I spoke about in my recent newsletter to you. We are not against unions. We are against the tremendous power they exert on our representatives with our money. We pay taxes to the government. The government then takes our money to pay their employees. The employees then take our money and pay their union dues, a portion of which goes towards the union's political fund. As the saying goes, "just follow the money"

For much too long, public employee's unions have spent our money working to defeat rules and laws that will help bring our government back to a common sense approach to fiscal responsibly. For much too long, the public employee's unions has used their membership's dues, without their permission, to support causes that may not be in the best interest of their members or the State of California. It's time to give the union members the opportunity to control the dues they pay. It's a matter of freedom of choice. It's the American way!

The ballot measure we are supporting has already been to the United States Supreme Court and has been declared constitutional. It's time for California government employees to have the freedom of choice.

This is going to be hard battle as the unions will spend tens of millions of dollars to defeat our ballot measure. But, we have something they don't have. We have an army of Tea Party Patriots ready and willing to fight for something that is a right of all Americans, freedom of choice.

What can you do to help?  We need each and every one of you to help.  Each of you can do your part by collecting signatures from your friends, family, clubs, churches, etc. Or you can volunteer to be part of the NCTPP signature gathering teams that will set up at stores around the area to collect signatures starting in December. Whatever you do, please get involved. We can't change the state and the nation without your help.  If you're interested in helping out, please go to http://unplugthepoliticalmachine.ning.com, join the site, and then search for Nevada County and you'll find us. Join our group and we'll know you're ready to help us start collecting signatures in early December when the petitions are released.

NCTPP Updates

Your Board of Directors have been very busy since our last newsletter.  We have filled 10 of the 11 seats on the Board, and all are working to make our organization stronger and more visible than ever.

We are now approaching 1,400 members as new concerned citizens join our fight on a daily basis. We are getting great publicity from our local media and from you that write letters to the editor of The Union. It's important that you respond to articles in The Union that try to undermine our efforts. I cannot stress enough how important your letters are to our success.  Make sure that, after your name, you write "a Tea Party Patriot".

On Tuesday 10/27/09, The NCTPP made a very important presentation to the Nevada County Board of Supervisors regarding the underfunded public employees pension plan, which is now about $80 million in the red. There was a front page article in the Union on 10/28/09. The reporter said that there were 30 of us, but by my head count there were just under 100. One of the Board members said this was the largest turnout he had seen since being elected.   This meeting gave the NCTPP a lot of very positive publicity in The Union and on KNCO. All five members of the Board were involved, courteous, informed and polite to all.

I want to thank the many of you who came to the meeting to support us.  This is exactly how you can help your organization.  It takes very little effort to make a big difference.

On Wednesday, 10/28/09, I was asked to debate the proposed health care bill on Nevada County TV, cable channel 11.  It was great fun and I think you will enjoy watching it.  It is available to view now..  Go to http://www.nevadacountytv.org.  Click on "Video on Demand".  Then find Oct.31, 2009 and look for "Lew Sitzer".  Let me know your thoughts.

I have arranged with Nevada Union High School to make a TPP presentation to three of their civics classes in late November. This will be an opportunity to speak to our future leaders about fiscal responsibility, limited government, free markets and respect for the Constitution and Bill of Rights. I am very excited about this event.

An accountant has agreed to work for us at no charge. We are also meeting with an attorney to make sure that we are doing everything in accordance all rules and regulations.

So when someone asks, "What are the Nevada County Tea Party Patriots doing? -- you have some answers.

We are developing a schedule of events that we will present to you soon.

As I always stress, it's your organization and we can't continue to grow until you decide that you want to help.  We need you to step up to the plate and contribute some time and effort.  We need you to email us and volunteer just a little time to one of our committees. Is that asking too much to help change the direction of our county, state and country?
