Pledge Sunday! It would be wonderful if we could all express our commitment together at the same time, and remove all uncertainty (and drama) from our budget planning for 2010. With deep gratitude for all you do to make possible the far-reaching mission of our church, and our ministry to each other and our community, I'd like to share these words from Ann Hatcher, the new Chair of our Leadership Council. I don't think it can be said any better than Ann said it during last Sunday's worship.

RENOVATION WORKING GROUP |

Update -- February 14, 2010
Following church services on Sunday, February 14, Beth Moffett, Chair of the Renovation Working Group (RWG), updated the congregation on the efforts of the Renovation Working Group. She noted that the work had been prioritized into three areas: extending the life of the buildings; enhancing the functionality of the buildings; and improving the aesthetic experience. She highlighted the significant progress to date: 1. Replacement of flat roof; 2. Cleaning of underground drains; 3. 8% contribution to ACCA; and 4. Initial planning. Read more... |

Update on Budget Considerations Thank you to Sarah Turner and Ann Hatcher for kicking off RBC's stewardship focus so beautifully the past two Sundays! In the coming weeks we hope each of you will prayerfully consider and commit to a pledge that reflects God's abundance and our great hope for the coming year. We look forward to celebrating our shared commitment on Pledge Sunday, February 28. Read more...

Contributions to the Hope Chest
When we established the Hope Chest as our 50th Anniversary celebration gift in 2009, we had no idea that the response would be so overwhelmingly positive! Last year, we received contributions of over $27,000 from individual donations. That abundant initial offering from RBC friends and members further inspired an anonymous donor to pledge $325,269 over the next seven years! As you can see above, the Renovation Working Group is meeting and gathering information, including input from the congregation, to insure that we are good stewards of this tremendous gift. LENTEN BIBLE STUDY

Jesus' Last Week -- Begins February 24 For this year's Lenten study, Steve Hyde and Bob Turner will be leading us in a consideration of Jesus' last week on earth as depicted in the Gospel of Mark--from his entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday to his death and burial on Good Friday/Holy Saturday. We will look at the social, religious, and political context of Jesus' activity in Jerusalem, and consider the reasons for his execution and the meaning of his death and resurrection, both for his followers in the first century and for us today.

| A HEART...Y INVITATION |
|
You can still help the church leadership, even if you aren't on a Commission or Committee.
As the Nominating Committee sought people for elected leadership positions for 2010, we found that some people who were not able to accept an elected position volunteered to assist a particular Committee or group as needed. We thought this was such a good idea that we wanted to invite others to consider volunteering in this way. Read more...

Recent Additions to the Collection We would like to let you know a little about some of the books that have been added to our collection during the past year. Beauty, by John O'Donohue, is a memorial book for Steve Hyde's father, Eric Grant Hyde. This is a beautifully written book by the Irish author of Anam Cara and Eternal Echoes. Steve mentioned at the Ash Wednesday service that O'Donohue, who suffered an untimely death last year, is his favorite author. You won't want to miss this book that explores the nature of beauty in our world and how we can be more in touch with beauty in our lives.

| READ-A-CHURCH-LIBRARY-BOOK MONTH |
|
February 2010
During the joint Sunday School session featuring the church library on January 31, Marshall Marks suggested designating February as "Read-a-Church-Library-Book Month." The library committee thought this was a good way to encourage church members and regular attendees to check out one of the library's approximately 2,440 wonderful books. Read more... |
