~ It's all right letting yourself go, as long as you can get yourself back ~ Mick Jagger

Addiction. Not the sexiest of topics but something that is extremely prevalent in our society today. Simply stated, an addiction is something you cannot stop doing.

What causes us to turn outside ourselves for comfort? Why do we develop "habits" that can be detrimental to our health and well-being? Sometimes, it is just too painful and overwhelming to meet our emotions straights on. So we numb ourselves to create a little more space, a bit more ease. For a time, this may work beautifully. We escape and feel better. But there may come a moment when the light bulb goes out and we are like holy S--T!!! This becomes a moment of awakening.

At the core, all addictions stem from running. Running from our authentic selves out of fear, stress, anxiety...When the day to day seems to much to bear and we need to escape for a bit. It could be a substance, a person or an activity to name just a few. Many blame genetics and the environment. While this may play a role, there are other factors. Individuals that are "ultra-sensitive" take on their surroundings even more. Whatever the rationale, it is running from something; plain and simple.

As I tend to lead by example, an addiction of mine has been exercise. My dependency on when, how much, how long, ruled my world. I used vigorous exercise when I wasn't feeling emotionally abundant. Feelings such as anger, fear and sadness where masked by the endorphin high I received. I began to ask a higher power to relinquish this compulsion and to stop the madness. Through a series of events, I have become completely humbled. Today, I can happily share that with the help of yoga, meditation and support, I have come out the other side.

It takes a strong constitution and a deep commitment to rewiring our programming and the stories we tell ourselves. The path to healing and wholeness takes time. With dedication, heart and consistency we transform; we become more than we ever dreamed. A tree doesn't bloom overnight. It begins as a seed and in right time it begins to grow branches. In right time it grows it's blossoms. So it is with us. Nurturing and caring are the seeds to our unfoldment.

Here is a simple prayer:

Dear God, Spirit, Universe (Other),

Please guide me to right action
Help me see with clarity, the truth of who I AM
Help me let go of my fears and invite beauty in
Help me blossom into my true authentic self
Help me create space within my heart and SOUL for healing

May I live my highest truth and shine my light. I choose to be at peace. And so it is...

Delving into the inner resources of our self takes great courage. It is often a painful process. But if you can enter the deep caverns of your being, with compassion and sweetness, what emerges is a blossoming into who you really are. As we move out of that which no longer serves us, we are transformed into the divine beings we are destined to become. We shine our lights more fully, more authentically and we experience the true beauty that is around us in each moment.
Be present, be conscious, be fearless! You are deeply, deeply loved.

Wishing you peace and many blessings.
With Love, Denise
