Catalina Island Opens New Zip Line from top of Mountain to Descanso Beach (See New Video)

Art Good was ready to ZIP last Thursday, but High Winds closed the Zip Line for the day. Saxophonist Mindi Abair is soon to do a birthday weekend on the Island for her husband and may be ZIPPING herself. Saxophone will be left at home. But even MORE Island Changes await JazzTrax Festival Goers this October. On Main Street across from the Green Pier, the Brand New Avalon Bar & Grill will be open by Memorial Day Weekend. Expect JazzTrax After Parties there on Friday & Sunday Nights this Fall, before and after the World Famous JazzTrax Saturday Night After Parties on the Beach. Speaking of which Descanso Beach has gone through a Total Make-Over. Not only does the new Zip Line End there. Zip and then Sip, but New SAND has been brought in with new Private Rentable CABANA'S and new BEACH FIRE PITS. The BEACH BAR DECK has been EXPANDED all the way back to the Boardwalk Arriving from the Casino. The Restrooms completely Renovated and a New Stage Built, a bit higher on the hillside to make way for the new Cabana's. Just in time for JazzTrax 3 October Weekends on the Island, Descanso Beach has been RECAST. Look for more Festival Activity in the Future there At the Beach.

 

Speaking of the Casino itself, where the JazzTrax Festival will be held in the Avalon Ballroom....looking Out to Sea.... over 3 Consecutive Weekends for the 24th Consecutive October. It looks as if they just covered it with Crest Whitening Strips. A 4 month Casino Full-On Restoration is now complete. To the tune of almost a million dollars, the entire Casino was covered for much of Winter into Spring, almost like when you tent a house. The Picture here shows the workers wrapping up the final segment. The Sparkling White Restoration designed to make the Avalon Casino structure ready to Last Through our Children's Lifetime, almost like Brand New. This Spring's Restoration cost almost as much as the Casino's original cost for William Wrigley to build in 1929.

 

Also a new restaurant, just opened in April, beneath the old Blue Parrot, simply called M (part of the Metropole Hotel). When you arrive in October the Island will be Enhanced as it hasn't been.....in years.
