Newest Catalina Island Artist Line-Up Additions Announced!
Nick Colionne
 |
The 'fisherman of the format', Chicago Guitarist Nick Colionne is the newest announced for October on Catalina Island, But, he's comin' alone. Thursday Night October 7th, Nick will do his first-ever Unplugged At The Wrigley Ranch. Solo Under the Stars... on the far side of the Island, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. Not since he performed on the JazzTrax Baseball Train at midnight headed north from Memphis overnight to Chicago aboard Amtrak, has Nick performed solo unplugged anywhere! How did I talk him into it? The place Nick caught the most fish in 2009 was off the pier into the Pacific Ocean on the Island last Fall. I offered the guitarist a week of island ocean fishing. That's how I reeled Nick in, but it won't be Nick's only JazzTrax fishing as he brings his rod, reel, guitar and full band to Big Bear Lake in June to see what he can catch in the Southern California mountains. Maybe off the back of the brand new JazzTrax Floating Stage right on the lake. See the full 30 Artist line-up for October on Catalina Island now! View what seats are still available in the Avalon Ballroom and courtyard of the Wrigley Ranch now. |

March Ticket Sales Soar... Jazztrax Festival Ticket Sales Another Indicator Recession Is Over
The recession is OVER. The recession is OVER. Repeat after me. The recessions is OVER. Honestly I just watched a CNN report proclaiming that today. True, the recovery has only begun, but Americans have obviously realized we reached bottom, officially last Summer. Albeit a long way to go, Employment finally rose in March. Inventories are way low and have to be built back up now that recovery has begun and that means jobs. It is obvious to a lot of us that spending has begun again. I'll throw in my personal proof. A year ago, March 2009, that month's normal March ticket sales plummeted by over half. March 2010 saw March ticket sales SOAR for the first time in Months, doubling a year ago and coming close to March 2008! Our business barometer indicates that ticket sales for JazzTrax Festivals are likely to restore themselves to pre-recession levels this Summer and Fall. With first timers to JazzTrax live presentations asking all kinds of questions, including several inquiries from Australia. Where to Stay in Avalon and Big Bear Lake. What's the weather like in June in the Southern California mountains and in October on our Island 26 Miles off the Southern California coastline. And with many who skipped 2008 and 2009 while the recession ravaged their investments and confidence now evidently making their arrangements to return to the JazzTrax Festivals, NOW is the TIME to get the absolute best overnight accommodations and for the very best prices. As hotels and rentals fill up, prices will go up and you will have less choice. A JazzTrax Festival goer normally wants not only the best seats, but the best overnight arrangements. We continue to recommend the cheapest way to come. Bringing another couple or other friends to share rental houses. Or rental cabins in Big Bear in June at the Marina Resort, right on the festival LakeSide site, who has a few hotel rooms left. Or an incredible two bedroom condo at Forest Shores Inn, On the Lake. In October, Catalina Island Vacation Rentals still has Hamilton Cove Villas that include private golf cart for the weekend, some with multiple bedrooms and a vast array of spectacular in-town rental houses. Some are 'Million Dollar' houses with multiple bedrooms and spectacular Harbor/Casino views. Share the JazzTrax party with friends splitting accommodations on a spectacular place and come out $$$ ahead! |

Brand New On The Island This Year...
Descanso Beach is about to open, remodeled with Cabana's and beach fire pits and a Zip Line coming down from way up the mountain. 'Zip and Sip'. This is where in October on Saturday Nights at Midnight, DJ Jonathan Phillips has festival goers dancing on the beach at midnight. On Main Street, across from the Green Pier, the new Avalon Grill is about to have it's Grand Opening. It replaces a tour company site. no restaurant existed there before. The bar at the Avalon Grill is expected to rage during JazzTrax. A giant tarp cover is about to be removed from the entire Casino revealing a glistening white building that of course has stood there at ocean's edge since William Wrigley opened the Avalon Casino and Avalon Ballroom to Hollywood in 1929. Don't mean to hit you with too much... but 'In All the World, No Place Like This for Jazz'. The stars of Contemporary Jazz performing on a Floating Stage Father's Day Weekend on an Alpine Lake in the Summertime Southern California Mountains in the Village of Big Bear Lake.'Ski In, Ski Out' (without the skiis), staying at a Host Hotel and walking to everything including all the Village Restaurants. The stars of Contemporary Jazz Performing in the Avalon Ballroom ... looking out to sea, on an Island, 26 Miles off the Southern California Coastline, in a tiny Mediterranean feeling Seaport Village, called Avalon. Come visit us right now at JazzTrax.com and make plans to schedule yourself in June to Big Bear Lake or in October to Catalina Island, to the JazzTrax Live Performance stages. After all, the corporate name for JazzTrax is 'Islands, Oceans, Lakes Inc.' and remember... the recession is over... it's time for live jazz in the most exotic locations imaginable! |

JazzTrax Guest
Saxophonist Jarred' to debut 'Manhattan Nights'
Jaared
 |
The Saxophonist who simply goes by his first name... Jaared, is in studio with me this week. Listen right now as Jaared debuts his new April CD 'Manhattan Nights'. On microphone, Jaared's stories will include the project's title coming from his having, by happenstance, being in New York City the Morning of 911. How he saw the plane hit the 2nd Tower of the World Trade Center with his own eyes. How he then quickly fled by ferry from Manhattan back to the Jersey shoreline on the other side of the Hudson River only to turn around and watch the Towers crumble. Jaared will tell of his project being dedicated to Dianne Grainger, his band's drummer, who suffered a head injury and passed away suddenly last summer. She is the daughter of the drummer of Acoustic Alchemy. Dramatic stories and the songs you'll find uplifting.
JazzTrax this Week features multiple cuts from April's Brand New Steve Oliver,'Global Kiss'. The highly talked about New Chris Standring 'Blue Bolero' who's radio single "Bossa Blue" is already charting Top 10. Plus we've already got the forthcoming new ones from David Benoit and Mindi Abair. Those early JazzTrax listens from that pair have already begun. Benoit will be on JazzTrax to debut his new 'Earth Glow' in 2 weeks. We're already proclaiming it the best so far this year... the Best from Benoit in ages and in instant contention for perhaps JazzTrax Album of the Year. Mindi will come to the JazzTrax Studio with her forthcoming 'Mindi Abair in Hi Fi Stereo' in May when Jonathan Butler also arrives to debut May's forthcoming 'So Strong' CD. |

Archive Album
1995 Jesse Cook 'Tempest'
Jesse Cook
 |
This Week's Archives Album Spotlight takes our ears and nostalgic memories back to Fall of 1995. When Narada Records asked me if there was any way of debuting one of their New Artists on Catalina Island. With the JazzTrax line-up completely in stone, I replied,"Well, there is this very intimate performance area on the Mezzanine of the Avalon Casino. He could play there in the Marine Room Bar (where the JazzTrax Festival TV always has the Baseball Play-Offs on in October)." Thus history was made when two weeks after the release of 'Tempest' Jesse Cook took America by storm playing between Main Stage sets, downstairs. It's where it all began for the French Canadian Rumba guitarist as we celebrate that now 15 year old solo debut CD on JazzTrax this week.
