JazzTrax Festival Tips

I have this ability in our amazing Tix.com ticketting computer to on-line look up all kinds of aspects of not only how many tickets sell each day (because we sell tickets to our JazzTrax Festivals almost every day of the year). I often wonder what kind of a life someone has, who, on Christmas Day is buying festival tickets on an island for shows in October, nine months away... but someone always does! I got curious as to who in March is buying festival tickets for an Island, 26 miles off the coast of Southern California, still six months away. I looked at where this past week's ticket purchasers live. I found ticket purchasers this month ordered from Milwaukee, a high volume which has been the case since JazzTrax first went on the air in Wisconsin 20 years ago. Rochester, New York. Seattle. Austin. Denver. Washington D.C. (big Smooth Jazz fan base in D.C. which is now spilling West to Catalina Island). Even though come October there will be lots of festival goers who drive in from San Diego, L.A. San Francisco and other parts of California and the West, those who fly in are planning their vacations for October at JazzTrax on Catalina Island now. They are getting the best rooms, Hamilton Cove Villa's, rental houses and in-town condo's.

Not trying to rush you, but whereas we have some daytrippers who come to the Island just for the day and take the late boat home that night after final performance on Saturday or Sunday, most JazzTrax Festival goers stay all three nights, or four nights and include Thursday Nights Unplugged at the Wrigley Ranch. You'll pay just as much if not more if you book your hotel room or rental condo, rental villa or rental house in Summer or early Fall, but the best accomodations are getting gotten right now by those flying in from other parts of the country or flying in for JazzTrax from other parts of the World. Coming from a distance you usually plan much further in advance. Of note, those booking NOW are getting the best deals on Avalon accomodations and the best places, and the best deals.I know because the extra three days I took to book through Orbitz my Minnesota Twins Opening Day for their new Ballpark in April, the total hotel airline package price for us rose $350. Because I waited.

Big Bear Lake Summer Music Festival Update

But even further, in Big Bear Lake where our JazzTrax Summer Festival on our Brand New Lakeside Lawn with FLOATING STAGE is now Just three months away, as the Host Hotel's rooms availability dwindles, the prices are about to go up. I stopped into the Marina Resort this weekend who's hotel rooms look out on the festival lawn, all with fulllake views, and festival goers have already booked up exactly half of all their hotel rooms. They are still offering these incredible rooms, on the festival grounds, starting as low as $164 a night. But as the number available shrink, that bottom line priceis likely to climb. In other words, book now and you'll spend less for accomodations at June's Father's Day Weekend Summer JazzTrax Festival with the Floating Stage on Big Bear Lake. I personally went inside several rooms at Marina Resort. I was almost sad I own a cabin in Big Bear Lake because this is just about the most terrific place I've ever seen to stay in at a JazzTrax Festival.I was further wowed when I asked to be shown the Condo's on the other side of the JazzTrax Festival Lakeside Lawn at Forest Shores Inn. The Marina Resort can book these for you.upstairs/downstairs, with two bedrooms, sleeps from 4 to 6 people with kitchen, and decks over the lake on both floors, or cheaper studio condo's beneath each two story condo almost on the beach. The prices for accomodations in Big Bear Lake for JazzTrax in June are so reasonable for such fabulous overnight bedroom settings... and you WALK into the Concerts and WALK into the Village for restaurants and shopping and WALK right across the street for JazzTrax After Parties at Nottingham's at the Robin Hood Resort who is also a Host Hotel offering hotel/ticket packages. Did I mention Guitarist/Scatter extraordinaire and Vocalist Steve Oliver  is now confirmed for our Opening Night After Party (no charge to get in) after our Opening Night Sunset Cocktail Party on the brand new JazzTrax Summer Festival Lakeside Lawn? Robin Hood's rooms for JazzTrax start as low as $100 a night. Hotel prices in Big Bear Lake are astoudingly reasonable. Plus there are Bed & Breakfasts & Cabins with cozy Summertime night fireplaces!

What's brand new on Catalina Island this Summer

Did you see our newest bookings for October on Catalina Island. Spicing it up for the first time with a German Guitarist who lives in the Ontario Province of Canada: Johannes Linstead. Steve Oliver with his brand new CD also just confirmed for the Island. Craig Chaquico will be Unplugged Under the Stars Thursday Night Sept. 30th to begin the nearly month-long Island jazzical extravaganza. Look now to see the quickly filling up 30 Artist Line-Up for October on Catalina Island. And Don't Wait To Book Those Overnight Accomodations! And for Sept.30th and Oct. 7th a new 'back of courtyard' lower price ticket, including Tour Bus Rride, Concert and Dinner has just been added for just $99 per person!

Descanso Beach opens for the Summer Season in April and opens completely remodelled. The Beach Bar has been redesigned to a 'W Hotel' fashion with Beach Cabanas and fire pits. A brand new Zip Line will come from high up the mountain near the gate to the Inland Island. Flying through the air to the Zips base at Descanso Beach. Zip, and then Sip. When you arrive on the Island for JazzTrax, you'll also experience a brand new bar and restaurant. The new Avalon Grille is to open any day at the corner opposite the Green Pier. I'm told it will be 'the place to be'. And the Wrigley Casino itself has been covered for a month or more now to whiten it up. The Casino with the Avalon Ballroom high atop it for JazzTrax will this Fall be glistening like never before!

For the most economical stay in Avalon book a multiple bedroom rental house in our seaport village through Catalina Island Vacation Rentals. They also rent the Monte Carlo strle Hamilton Cove Villas, some with multiple bedrooms, all that include a private golf cart. Book now while the best are still available. catalinavacations.com

JazzTrax Guest
Guitarist Steve Oliver to debut 'Global Kiss'
Steve Oliver

The Guitarist with the extraordinary scat and full vocals who creates from the 2,000 foot Banning Pass just east of Los Angeles, while looking out his studio window at the two highest mountain peaks in Southern California is this week's JazzTrax guest. We'll debut 'Global Kiss' which is being released next week. Songs written while Steve looked up at nearly 12,000 foot tall Mt.San Gorgonia behind him and nearly 12,000 foot tall Mt. San Jacinto in front of him. Great, melodic guitar compositions, and a handful of very thoughtful vocals. And with Steve in the JazzTrax Studio, great stories to match, including his weeklong cruise on board the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Ronald Reagan from Hawaii to San Diego as the featured performer for the servicemen headed home from 7 months of deployment, getting to sleep in the Officer's Quarters!
