JazzTrax Guest
Chris Standring
The brand new coming next week that is being debutted on JazzTrax right now could be one of this year's Absolute Top Releases. It is from British Guitarist Chris Standring who last gave us the huge 2008 radio hit "Love and Paragraphs". But what he's done is brought Orchestral and Cinematic behind his contemporary jazz compositions. Violinist Barbara Porter follows his guitar throughout and there's cello and frankly the new 'Blue Bolero' project can be described as stunningly interesting. Even as Chris joins us in the JazzTrax Studio, Chrishas confirmed that he will present his new Orchestral/Cinematic compositions on the JazzTrax Live Performance Stage on a Saturday Night in October on Catalina Island, directly ahead of Mindi Abair, in the darkness of the Avalon Ballroom... looking out to Sea. But first, listen right now, to Chris explaining his new project as we put a whole lot of it on this week's JazzTrax Airwaves. |

1986 Yellowjackets 'Shades'
Wanna feel like you're right back in the late 80's, when this genre was just starting to jump and before the Yellowjackets turned "left" and were still the crème de la crème of contemporary jazz? It's one of their last truly contemporary projects, 'Shades', from the 1988 JazzTrax Archives. Songs that were the coolest of cool back when Ronald Reagan still lived in the White House. And BassistJimmy Haslip, one of the founding members of the Yellowjackets, after showing up in Guitarist Bernie Williams Band on Smooth Jazz Island last Fall, is scheduled to return this October as part of the Jeff Lorber Fusion. The Yellowjackets never made it to Avalon, but Jimmy Haslip is in consecutive years. |
