JazzTrax Guest
A 'Realization' with Phillip 'Doc' Matin and keyboardist Oli Silk
This week JazzTrax debuts yet another new 2009 Artist. He's actually on his 3rd set, but as Saxophonist Phillip 'Doc' Martin joins Art Good in the JazzTrax Studio this weekend, He's likely to finally hit it from coast to coast with his new 'Realization' CD. He was college acquaintances with Eric Darius in neighboring colleges in Florida and why Doc in the middle of his name? He's a dentist in The D.C. suburb of Silver Springs, Maryland. Full time dentist and full time musician. He's a first time JazzTrax guest just before he brings his live show to Catalina Island for the first time Keyboardist Oli Silk is also on the show this weekend after spending the summer as a house guest of fellow Brit, Peter White in Los Angeles. Just before Oli comes to Catalina Island where he had his U.S. debut in 2006. |

Two weeks and Counting to the three-weekend run of this, the 23rd annual, Catalina Island JazzTrax Festival. And a fore warning for those coming earlyf or our 2nd Weekend. We are not expecting there to be ANY tickets left for Mindi Abair Unplugged at the Wrigley Ranch. That show, Thursday Night, Oct. 8th is almost sold out. Peter White Unplugged at the Ranch Oct. lst, may reach sell out by that day. Beyond that there are still good seats And Tables left for all sessions, all three weekends.
The Autumn weather here in Southern California is already turning fabulous. Summer's extreme heat broke from sea to mountains to desert on Monday. Including Catalina Island, Just 26 miles off shore, the warm weather (in the 70's in Avalon) will now continue with summer like conditions deep into November. Just a light jacket for night times including Dancing at Descanso Beach at Midnight.
I have an assignment for you, but it's a fun one. All 30 concerts at the JazzTrax Festival are being Webcast Live, with Webcam pointed at the stage. You can be in the Avalon Ballroom...looking out to sea, for all Three Festival Weekends with your Ears and your Eyes, even if you can't make it in person this year. But go get some Hot New Speakers for your computer so the concerts really sound, like you are right there. If you are coming to the festival, there are still two weekends you probably won't be there. Build your anticipation for your trip by listening to the Live Webcast before you come. Or maximize your memories by listening afteryou've been to the Island.
I just helped a friend find accomodations for the JazzTrax Festival.THERE ARE STILL LOTS OF HOTELS AND RENTAL HOMES AND CONDO'S still available for lodging in October in Avalon. JazzTrax.com will guide you, but if you are coming as more than two people, with friends or other couples, Try www.CatalinaVacations.com. Click 'Accomodations' (under the Buffalo's).Click either 'Rental Condo's' or 'Rental Houses' and you can select various properties and see pictures of that unit or property. Make it easy and be on the site when you call Catalina Island Vacation Rentals (310-510-2276) And they'll give you a list to look through on the website, still available for the weekend you want. You'll be surprised.
October is almost here. It's about to be Too Much Fun. Filled with Live Performances and Lifetime moments you'll never forget from your weekend on an Island, 26 Miles out to Sea. Because ya know... 'In All The World No Place Like This... for Jazz'. |
