Goodbye 2009!
Well we're coming to the end of another year. In my family's case, we're nearing the first birthday of our daughter -- how time flies! We've still got a little bit of swimming and partying to do this month before we break for the holidays. Take a peek at the articles below to find out about the Holiday Fitness Challenge and Raffle, the Hour of Power, the Holiday Party, and the return of swim practice on Monday January 4th. I hope to see you all this month and want to wish you a happy holiday season.
See you at the pool (or the lake),
Fitz
P.S. Just thinking out loud, should we do the Polar Plunge this year? | |
Holiday Fitness Challenge and Raffle
We've currently got 40+ people signed up for the Holiday Fitness Challenge. I know that this season is busy and that many of you missed the deadline to start the HFC. The HFC had two purposes: (1) to be something good for you to keep you fit and healthy over the holidays and (2) to be something good for people needing food during this time of year.
If you still want to get in on the HFC and the raffle, please contact us! We would love to have you in the bunch to help bolster the donation we'll make for the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Contact our office at 773.342.7250 or at info@chicagobluedolphins.com and let us know that you want to take part. We'll get the yardage you plan to swim for the remainder of the period, your T-shirt size, and the number of tickets you'd like to buy.

Hour of Power IV
It's that time of year again, the season of snow, colder temperatures, and the Hour of Power IV. This year will be the one when we go to Moscow to fight Ivan Drago and the Soviet scientific training machine...oh, wait, that's Rocky IV...let's start again...
On Sunday December 20th in the morning, we will run 4 waves of the Hour of Power, our 60 minute swim for distance. Last year, we hit 94 miles a team. This year, I'd like to see if we can get closer to that elusive 100-mile "Century Swim." Use this swim as a last gasp of training before the onset of the holiday celebration. Use it as a test for your fitness and for long distance swims next spring and summer. Use it to show your friends that you are tougher than they are. And use it as an excuse to throw a few back and eat a burger and fries at the Holiday Bowling Party that afternoon.
Spaces are still available for each of the waves. The warm-up and swim times for each wave are shown below:
- Wave 1: 7:45 warm-up, 8:00-9:00 swim *SIGN UP*
- Wave 2: 9:00 warm-up, 9:15-10:15 swim *SIGN UP*
- Wave 3: 10:15 warm-up, 10:30-11:30 swim *SIGN UP*
- Wave 4: 11:30 warm-up, 11:45-12:45 swim *SIGN UP*
As in previous years, we'll need to have counters for the waves as well as swimmers. Email our office at info@chicagobluedolphins.com if you can count for another swimmer. I'll have coffee, bagels, and other stuff to munch on when you get splits for your team member.

Holiday Party -- December 20th
On Sunday December 20th from 1-5pm, we'll be getting together at the Seven-Ten Lounge at 2747 N. Lincoln Ave. in Lincoln Park to hang out, bowl, and have some fun.
Bowling and hors d'ouevres are on us. The bar will be a cash bar. We'll run the raffle midway through the day.
You should have gotten an Evite for the party if you are member of the CBD Masters team. Please respond ASAP so we can get a head-count to the bar. If you didn't receive the Evite, please contact us at info@chicagobluedolphins.com and we'll send it along. |
Winter 1 Session Starts January 4th!
After Sunday December 20th, we'll be taking a two-week break through the holidays and pick up on Monday January 4th for the Winter 1 session. Jenny will be sending out the accounts notification this week. If you want to change your payment plan or go inactive, please let us know by Monday December 21st. January 4th will start a new 16-week season, so if you want to buy a seasonal or yearly package of sessions, now is the time to do it.
WINTER 1 ACCOUNTS
For those budgeting, we'll be running the accounts on the weekend of January 2nd. If you've changed your address or if your credit card is due to expire this month, please log in to the CBD website and make the change on your record.
2010 USMS RE-REGISTRATION
For those who did not join the team since November 1st, we'll need to get you re-registered for US Masters Swimming ASAP. The quickest way to get this done is to register online at the USMS Registation page. Enter your zip code and then click "Register Online Now" to go to the renewal page. You are already a member, so look up your information and re-register with CBD. If you have any questions, please contact our office at 773.342.7250 or at info@chicagobluedolphins.com.

Non-Freestyle Clinics in 2010
You've asked, we've heard! We'll be running some one-day butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke clinics on Sunday mornings during the 9am practice like we did last year. We'll do an overview of the strokes and teach some basic drills. The cost of the class for members is $15.
The clinic schedule is:
