Children of China Pediatrics Foundation
CCPF 2012 Mission
A Success
The 2012 Children of China Pediatrics Foundation medical mission changed lives.  Our team's second visit to the Chengdu Women's and Children's Hospital was a complete success allowing us to perform life-changing procedures for 34 children including 28 surgeries.

Our team of thirty volunteers included plastic surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, urologic and general surgeons, as well as operating room and recovery room nurses, technicians and volunteers.

One child returned to CCPF after his surgery last year and was well enough to have his colostomy bag removed - giving him a new chance at a more normal life.

Sixteen children received plastic surgery correcting cleft lips and palates that were hindering their ability to eat, thrive and smile.  A six month old arrived from a remote village in Tibet where almost no medical care exists.
In addition to treating children who came as far as two-day train rides away, our team was able to provide medical education through lectures and demonstrations for scores of Chinese practitioners.     Each team member was askeChengdu Educationd to present a lecture on their specialty to rooms full of Chinese surgeons and nursing teams.  The learning continued into the operating rooms where procedures and techniques were demonstrated.   The academic exchange helps CCPF to provide a lasting effect not just for the children we treated, but for many children to come.

Rehabilitation
One of the main concerns expressed by the orphanages and foster homes we work with is providing rehabilitative care.   Vincent Benenati
Through the help of Heakyung Kim, MD, Rehabilitation Specialist, and Vincent Benenati, Orthotic and Prosthetic Specialist, we were able to start our dream of launching a rehab program that would train caregivers.

CCPF team members spent two days working with the Chengdu Children's Welfare Institute to discuss techniques and management strategies for children in this orphanage with chronic conditions.  We are now planning a week-long rehab training program for orphanage staff and foster parents to take place next year.

Hiking
Making a difference for one child - or thirty-four children - or the six hundred children we have helped over our twelve year history - is what CCPF is dedicated to doing. Please consider donating generously to help CCPF continue to provide life-changing surgery for some of the thousands of children living in Chinese orphanages because of their medical conditions. These children would not receive care without your help.

Thank you again,
