Greetings!
It is a New Year and I have resolved to be more positive in my editorial outlook on life and politics. Therefore I want to say that I am positive things are still glum!
America needs jobs, real jobs, not the temporary ones over the buying season holidays, and contractors need work. The problem is uncertainty. Employers won't hire until they can see a return on investment a short ways down the road. Right now all we can see are those cans booted in that direction. Is that all? No, not by a long shot, but for those of you who think we have a tax problem, I positively disagree. We have plenty of tax revenue. What we have is a spending problem.
What else? Washington is deadlocked on solutions. Democrats and Republicans are stalemated, going nowhere. There is no leadership. Stubborn ideologues on both sides are dug in. Worse, I do not believe in many of them any more. What is the solution? Vote 'em out! We don't have term limits but I am positive we could do better if we applied our own. I suggest two terms in the Senate and out, four terms in the House and begone! But that brings up yet another difficulty. Vote for who? "We would all like to vote for the best man but he is never a candidate", said Kin Hubbard, and he was right. Why would anyone run for public office? I am sure that even Mother Theresa would be vilified by the media if she ran on a conservative ticket. So why do some run? Call me cynical but if you said Ego Trip, Power Play, Riches, and More Riches, Fame or the like, I would agree. The personal wealth of many Senators and Representatives has increased dramatically over their terms in office. Did you know that they are immune to the Insider Trading penalties that would put you and me in jail, even Martha Stewart? Kin Hubbard also said, "Now and then an innocent man is sent to the legislature." I have my doubts.
When I was in school I learned that there were three branches of government: the Executive, the Legislative and the Judicial. Now there is a fourth, the Administrative, made up of unelected bureaucrats who are generating regulations by the thousands to stifle our economy and capitalism. It has to stop.
And, Comrade, every society has people in different economic levels from poor to rich. Here in America those with less get the chance to change that. Like I tell my sales staff, "Want to make more? Then sell more!" There should be Class Competition but not Class Warfare. All these strategies to level the playing field by redistributing your wealth and mine are not the American Way I remember, back in the day.
Oh well. "The reason I talk to myself is that I'm the only one whose answers I accept." So said George Carlin. Me, too. Positively!
Are you better off than you were three years ago? Is the country? Not that I have seen. To heal, America needs to have its economic engine unleashed. Don't penalize the successful citizens who are the job creators, don't penalize business with crippling regulations. We are the Land of Opportunity ------- or we can be again, if given the chance!
And of that I am positive! Happy New Year.
Sincerely,
Bob Hibler, Newsletter Editor, Pontifical Czar and Cock-eyed Optimist Gamka Sales Co., Inc.

There is snow time like the present!
  |
Snow Throwers in 21" to 30" Widths, One and Two Stage, Push or Self Propelled, Starting at $399.95! Quantities Limited

Snow Throwers Are Here at Gamka! The October slush and snow storm was a warning of what Mother Nature has up her sleeve. Snow on Halloween should be illegal but it isn't. The Farmer's Almanac and the bushy tails on the squirrels are telling us this is going to be another miserable winter. If you have a brand new Husqvarna snow thrower you can minimize your outdoor exposure to that awful white stuff. They move snow quick. Unlike the big box stores where you go home with a big box, Gamka will set up your new snow machine, test run it, even deliver it! Yes, there is a charge for that but we can do it better than most of you can. Also, unlike the big box stores, we do warranty repairs and service what we sell. Husqvarna Snow Throwers are in stock, while the supply lasts. They make great gifts. When they are gone, they are gone until next year so for the best selection, shop early. Come to our showroom and give a look. We also have chainsaws, generators, pumps and lots more. Gamka does other outdoor equipment repairs on nearly all makes so if your present machine is not running this is the time to arrange to fix it. Gamka's doors are open Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. |
