Greetings!
 GORK Ahead.
GORK? You ask, what is GORK? It is an acronym for God Only Really Knows. Since Gamka started this newsletter last July (past newsletters are available at www.gamka.com), I don't think there was much doubt on how we stood on political issues at Gamka's World HQ. One does what one can and we did. 2011 has arrived. This is a new year, with new faces of Representatives and Senators being sworn in Washington and a promise of a new agenda for our country. It would be immodest of me to think that these newsletters had much to do with that, but with my voice and many, many millions of others all joined together, we voted for men and women who stood for more jobs, less government, less spending, lower taxes and more representation of us constituents. Will we get it? GORK. Now your Editor Czar is going to watch what transpires as the months go by. If things begin to go south, I will e-mail my Senators and Representatives, phone them, tell my friends what I see and do everything I can to get back on course. Please do the same. Will that make the difference? GORK. In the meantime, your Editor is going to wear his Marketing Czar hard hat more often and try to expand Gamka's market share. Will that work? GORK. See you next month, whatever! Sincerely,
Bob Hibler, Newsletter Editor and GORK Czar

Winter Driving Prep
(or Re-Prep)
First, what you are about to read should have been done several months ago. If you, like so many of us, just ran out of year before running out of work, it may be timely. Second, even if you did all of them, it won't hurt to check again. S%#t happens, as they say. One of the most important things to check is your antifreeze. Make sure the antifreeze you use is formulated for use in diesel engines. Antifreeze for automobile use can gel in diesel engines because of the higher levels of silicate. Keep antifreeze concentrations between 40 and 60 percent. Protection is diminished at levels above 68 percent. The two types of antifreeze acceptable for diesel engines are ethylene glycol and propylene glycol. Some things to check that you don't normally look at or even think about may include: - Fan blade
- Radiator shutter or winterfront cover
- Fan combination settings (the shutter setting should be about 10° under the fan clutch setting)
- Radiator coolant levels
- Thermostat calibration set to open at about 180° F
- Water pump - leak and flow rate
- Hoses, clamps and belts
- Fuel system
- Engine oil heaters and oil grade specifications
- Electrical systems, battery terminals
- Air systems - drain any water in the lines and check often to prevent brake freeze up.
- Tires - each 10° drop in temperature lowers air pressure by one pound.
- Locks and hinges adequately lubricated.
Your battery is especially important. If you need to add fluid, use distilled water to fill the cells. Do not use antifreeze. Check a conventional lead acid battery with a hydrometer. A reading of 1.26 is fully charged. For a maintenance-free battery, use a voltmeter and look for a reading of 12.7 volts. If your battery freezes, warm it up to about 60° before charging. Overcharging will damage the battery. Fuel problems start when the temperature gets down to 2°. Drain your water separator each night to prevent freezing and fill your tanks at day's end.

Anyway, so what do YOU want?
OK, Gamka is into this thing called Social Media. Not willingly but necessarily. The IT Gurus all say this is where one must be to succeed. The old virtues of adding value, customer service and application engineering seem to have taken a back seat. But not at Gamka! Nope, notwithstanding all that FaceBook and Tweeting stuff, we also have our new Social Media hat on and are listening for hints of where else we need to go to help our customers succeed. If they do, we do.
So, soon we will be sending out a survey asking for input on webinars. Do you like them? If so what topics are of interest and when is the best time for you to participate. The questions won't take long to answer and what you say will influence what we do by way of this educational format. The more replies the more accurate will the survey be. One is not very useful whether it says that respondee loves them or thinks they suck. What am I asking? Please reply. Forward it to your e-mail buddies and ask them to do the same. Webinars take our time to do and your time to see, if you like them we will do them. Or some, anyway.
We are trying to make this monthly communiqué worth looking at, hence the safety stuff and other content. If you want more, or less, or different don't be shy, tell us.
It really is meant to be YOUR newsletter, so what do YOU want?
