Greetings!

I am in the car a lot commuting to work and back home, at least two hours a day. Since I am not into Rap or what passes for music these days, I listen to Talk Radio. One of the stations I tune to runs a commercial that starts out saying, "Does your marketing suck?" Having reached the age that I have, I find that hearing the word "suck" on the radio, well, sucks. Plus, since I do marketing, I don't like the inference. On the other hand, maybe it does. Suck, that is. No matter how much I know that advertising expenditures should not be decreased, we all have to watch our budgets and the money for marketing has shrunk like everything else but unemployment. This "New Normal" sucks too.
Anyway, on the brighter side, there are ways to stretch your dollars. My ninety-seven year old auntie has a pillow with this saying embroidered on it: "Use it up; Wear it out; Make it do or do without". Good advice, it certainly applies today and Gamka can help!
Don't want to buy new equipment? Rent from Gamka or let our service department fix yours. Want to do it yourself? We have parts.
And using the Social Media to get that virtual message out stretches our marketing budget too. That unsucks.
How many of you reach out for business like this? Is it just trendy or does it work? Are you on Facebook? Twitter? LinkedIn? Do you blog? I would like to know if you find it successful. Please email me at bob@gamka.com or let me know whatever you think by calling on the phone.
Meanwhile as we all wait for the Hope and Change to kick in, remember that nothing is ever as good or as bad as it seems. To quote Abigail Van Buren, "Nobody can walk all over me unless I lie down first". Sincerely, Bob Hibler, Newsletter Editor Czar

KARAOKE VICTIMS
I knew it! I just knew that somehow karaoke had to be hazardous. Case in point:
***********************************
Barroom researchers have confirmed what many already suspect: karaoke singing can cause pain. Strenuous singing can injure the voice and increase the risk of deafness, according to studies.
Researchers in Korea measured sound pressure levels during ballads and rock songs. They also measured each singer's hearing threshold levels before and after one hundred minutes of karaoke.
Results showed that noise levels frequently exceeded the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration's limits. Many times the levels were above 115 decibels, roughly equivalent to having a pneumatic drill going a meter away from your head.
"Up to eight decibels of significant hearing loss was found at the most important human hearing frequency band, after about two hours of karaoke. It may pose a serious threat," warns the study, in the International Journal of Industrial Ergonomics.
What, you say, does this have to do with you as an employer? It is all about noise. If your employees are exposed to job noise levels that might prove injurious to their hearing, YOU, the employer, are obligated to provide the Personal Protective Equipment that will prevent that from happening. Under OSHA regulations, employers are required to assess the worksite for hazards and to supply, maintain and enforce the use of the safety equipment needed. |
