Gamka Sales Co., Inc. Newsletter
June 2010
Greetings!

Bob Hibler, Editor
This is our first entry in the World of Social Media so please be gentle!  Communications like this e-newsletter are apparently the "New Normal" and we at Gamka don't want to be left behind. On that note,  I admit to being personally inundated with e-mails offering me assistance in finding the perfect mate (something my wife would object to), access to numerous pharmacopeia, many of which would be illegal if they were authentic, and other romantic "aids" that promise more than they could deliver or we could get them offline too. And this is despite the maximum setting level on my junk mail filter. You are too, right? What I am getting to is that our goal with the news from Gamka's World H.Q. will be to be brief, timely, educational and interesting enough for you not to reflexively hit the delete button before reading them.

Of course, that is how I see it happening. What matters is how you feel about it, not me! So don't be shy about feedback, if we get off point,  straighten us out. My e-mail is bob@gamka.com or pick up the phone. I get paid to do this stuff but you don't get a cent for reading it. There has to be another value for you.

Anyway, enough philosophy from me, what do you think?

Sincerely,

SLAB REHABILITATION--the Opportunities will FLOOR YOU
Prime Resins Floor StabilizationGamka has established itself as a distributor of thousands of construction products and many of them relate to concrete construction. New concrete floors have been a huge part of the work many of our customers do. In today's economy, it is no secret that new work is slow and building owners are often looking to repair their floors, not replace them.

Can you be a part of that? Yes!  But you have to know more if you want to be involved AND to make money. So on March 24, 2010 Gamka and Prime Resins did a live, on-line Webinar on the subject of fixing floors. It, like this newsletter, was a first time for us and it was well attended but that is a relative term. Only the first 100 who registered could see it. Gamka has thousands of customers and most of them were not enrolled. I suspect that you may have missed it too, right? Of course you had to be registered and on-line at 7:00 am March 24th and that just was not practical for all of those who were interested.

 Well, good news. You can still see and hear and learn all about floor rehab at whatever time works for you.  Go to our website, www.gamka.com. Next to the guy with the hard hat is an orange circle that says "FREE Slab Rehab Webinar. Click here for Webinar info." Click it, register (it is virtually painless) and you are on your way to the webinar, now recorded.  Grab a coffee, turn up your speakers and learn about another potential revenue stream.

In about an hour the secrets to floor rehabilitation will be yours.

About Gamka Sales Co., Inc.

Gamka Sales Company is a distributor of a wide variety of construction products. Our customers are commercial and industrial contractors and municipalities. We are family run, not a chain. Our World Headquarters is in Edison. Gamka's truck fleet delivers all over New Jersey, metropolitan New York and Philadelphia from our own 60,000 square foot building in Edison, NJ. Inside, we have a 2,000 sq. ft. show room where our sales counter handles walk-in customers and telephone calls. Under roof are more than 30,000 line items including light to medium equipment, construction chemicals, hardware, and supplies. We rent over 1,400 pieces of equipment. There are 9,000 parts in stock and our service department repairs what we sell and rent.  What do we do with all this? We offer our customers application-engineered solutions to their problems.  Gamka's business is in equipment sales and rentals, construction chemicals, thermal and moisture protection, diamond cutting, hardware, concrete accessories and safety equipment.  We have established ourselves in the concrete market niche and are known by our customers as the concrete experts. If you have anything to do with concrete, from placing it to restoring it and every stage in between, Gamka can help. Concrete contractors come to Gamka for solutions. When they have problems we have the answers.

To serve our customers, we have three field sales representatives who call on contractors on job and in their offices.

Gamka's doors opened in 1986. This year we will be a twenty-four year old company. That longevity is directly attributable to our conviction that we need to be involved with what our customers are doing. We are a big box store without the big box attitude. Our website, www.gamka.com was designed to be a useful resource, a virtual library. It contains links to the manufacturers of the products we handle, videos on many of them, Gamka's history and much more. And we are not done; in the near future we will offer on-line purchasing. As the construction industry and our customers evolve, so do we.

Thanks from all of us at Gamka,

SLAB REHABILITATION--the Opportunities will FLOOR YOU
Beware the sun!
Beware the sun!
This is the time of year when the sun beats down relentlessly. You and your employees generally work during the daytime, when the sun is shining brightly, exposing you to ultraviolet rays and heat. What can that lead to? Heat Illnesses like Heat Cramps, Heat Exhaustion, and Heat Stroke. These can be avoided by learning how to stay cool: wear loose, light colored clothing, don't over exert yourself, drink water often. If someone falls victim to a heat illness, begin by moving the victim to a cooler area, then call 911.

Heat illnesses are not the only problems caused by the rays of the sun. Outdoor work has a particularly deadly and very sneaky occupational health hazard and that is SKIN CANCER. Your enemy is the sun and the sunbeams that shine on you all day long. Sun exposure puts you at risk. Skin cancer is an equal opportunity disease for whites, blacks and browns.  There are three types of skin cancer; basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma.The most dangerous and deadly skin cancer is the one called MELANOMA. It can spread to other parts of your body and if it does, the results can be fatal, unless you catch it really early.

What should you be doing about this? Look for skin cancer signs on your own body. It isn't difficult, look for moles that have any specific signs. They are called the A-B-C & D's.

  • Asymmetry: half of the mole does not match the other half;
  • Border: the border (edges) of the mole are ragged or irregular;
  • Color: the color of the mole varies throughout;
  • Diameter: moles with a diameter larger than a pencil's eraser.

If you wish graphic illustrations of this and more detail, e-mail bob@gamka.com and ask for the electronic flier on Melanoma.  It has pictures of what to look for.

Now let's talk about how to avoid or reduce the risk of getting skin cancer and particularly the killer, melanoma, in the first place.

Covering up is the easiest way.

Keep your long sleeve shirt and long pants on, wear a hat with a big brim, use sun block with an SPF sunblock factor of 50 and apply it often. You can buy clothing that has been specially treated to keep the sun off you. Do not practice tanning! Unless you can do your job at night, you and your employees are at risk as long as there is daylight. Melanoma is color blind, anyone of us can get it. Covering up with proper clothing and sunblock creams is cheap and effective. Passing this information along to friends and family would be a good thing to do as well. Frequent self-examination is the best way to catch melanoma early, while there is still time to cut it out and prevent it from spreading because when it does it is too late.
