nannies and sitters logoSummer Edition 2010

Message From Kathy

Spring has been ushered out and summer welcomed in; the lazy days of summer are here...or so I thought!  However, as each week holds different activities all their own (and sometimes all over town!), I am finding myself constantly readjusting each week with new pick up and drop off times for each camp (for each child, in some instances), all fun and wonderful opportunities which we wait all year to enjoy once school lets out.

One constant which we all appreciate is the support of our precious nanny, Katie.  Each night before we turn out the lights for bed, my youngest daughter asks, "Is tomorrow a Katie day?" and her eyes light up and a huge smile widens her sweet little face when I can answer in the affirmative.  Our kids have gotten a little older, with my eldest a teenager and now able to help with some more short-term babysitting.  Our needs for full-time help have scaled down to part-time, thus a "Katie day" is even more appreciated and eagerly anticipated.

At Mom's Best Friend, we want to make that type of connection for you with a great position and kids who, even after four years, will develop a big smile and usher a cry of delight from at the mere mention of your name!  Whatever type of placement you are seeking, we can find that position which is the perfect fit for you- call an MBF placement counselor today!

Summer Craft
Pet Rocks

Pet rocks are a fun way to express your creativity and yourPet Rock Craft own personal style. Whether it's a cute animal or a creepy creature, this pet rocks craft for kids is lots of fun and has no limits!

What you'll need:
Rock
Acrylic craft paint
Suggestion decorations: yarn, wiggle eyes, markers, glitter glue, sequins, beads, pom poms, etc
White craft glue

How to make it:
  • Start by washing your rock with warm soapy water. If your rock is jagged or has nooks and crannies, use a scrub brush to get all the dirt out.
  • Decorate your rocks however you like using just about anything. If it will stick, use it!
  • To make our Pet Rock Piggie, paint a smooth oval shaped stone with pink acrylic paint and let dry.
  • Glue a pink button to the center of the rock and two miniature pink pom poms toward the top for ears.
  • Use the handle end of a paintbrush dipped in white paint to create the whites of the eyes. After that dries repeat the process with black paint to add the blacks of the eyes.
  • Add a little red paint to the pink paint in your palette and dip your finger in. Dab off excess and put a spot on either side of the "nose" as the rosy cheeks.
  • Use a black fine tipped marker to dot on freckles.

    Tips:
Use your imagination; match your pet rock colors to your room or school colors.
Cut ears out of felt to make a floppy eared puppy dog!
Pet rocks are great for paperweights, so these make a great addition to your homework desk.

    Message from Veteran Nanny
Twelve years ago MBF Agency connected me with a wonderful family.  Thanks to the thorough application process it was a perfect match.

Well, its the end of an era for me.  My final  day was last Wednesday as the Brown family nanny! They took me and my family out to dinner at Eddie V's on Friday night for a "Farewell Party" It was very nice!

I don't think it has  hit home with me yet that this time has come.  They usually leave for summer camp this time every year, so that is what it feels like.  I might be a complete basket case in a month :) Although, I do have to say, I am TOTALLY excited about the future.  I had 12 FUN years with the Brown's and I have made friends for life, for sure. There are not words to describe how they changed my life.  Thank you.

Over the years and still to this day MBF has been there for me. Thank you MBF Agency for jump starting my career as a nanny and always being there for me! I just want to take this opportunity to thank you again for bringing the Brown's into my life, it was truly a blessing.
