Ruckus'  Tips and Tid-Bits
Bulldog Tested, Labrador Approved!
April 2009
Ruck and Tuck
Welcome to Spring!  It always excites me when the flowers start poking out of their winter beds because it means more opportunities to get out and about with the dogs!  What excites me more is that a lot of those opportunities can help out other animals.  We just participated in the Million Doodle March with proceeds benefiting the Oregon Dog Rescue.  Although this is a nation wide fundraiser, we here in Oregon held top honors for funds raised.  Read all about it here http://www.portlandtribune.com/news/
The next great walk is the annual Doggie Dash to support the Oregon Humane Society.  This is always an amazing event and helps to support thousands of animals each year.  If you haven't already signed up and want to hang with the 'boys', we would love to have you join our Ruckus Rules Team!  OR, start your own here http://www.oregonhumane.org/doggiedash/
Now onto some amazing people, places and things!

Cascade Bulldog Rescue and Rehome

This month happens to have information on a rescue that holds a special spot in our hearts around here!  The Cascade Bulldog Rescue and Rehome (CBRR) was opened 13 years ago by Cindy Mozingo, whose passion for both French and English Bulldogs is very clear.  By her side are some of the most amazing volunteers that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.  Each of them caring for the dogs that come into the rescue as if they were their very own. The mission of CBRR is to provide education, prevention, intervention, and adoption services to ensure that all English and French Bulldogs enjoy long, healthy lives in loving, safe, appropriate homes where they are provided the life-long care they require. CBRR commits to each Of the Bulldogs and adopter(s) they serve for the life of the dog. The arms of CBRR proudly reach Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, British Columbia, and Alberta. They are a  501 (c) 3 non-profit organization registered in WashingtonState.  You can find out more about this amazing rescue by going to their website. www.cascadebulldogrescue.org

Lasers and Veterinary Medicine
A laser is a device that generates an invisible beam of light that can cut, seal or vaporize tissue. It is the heat and electromagnetic effect of the laser that doctors use to conduct non-blood or less-blood cutting, cauterizing, and accurate microsurgery. Laser surgery has long been recognized in human medicine for its clinical benefits to both patient and surgeon. It is one of the most exciting new frontiers of veterinary medicine.
According to Dr. Wikander, "Laser surgery offers substantial clinical benefits over standard surgery.
The interaction of laser energy and tissue causes less pain, bleeding and swelling; resulting in quicker recovery times and shorter hospital stays."
The benefits of laser surgery include:
Less pain - the laser seals nerve endings as it 'cuts' so your pet may require less anesthetic during the operation while reducing their pain after the surgery.
Less bleeding - the laser cauterizes and seals small blood vessels during the surgery, greatly reducing blood loss and bruising.
Less swelling - the laser has no physical contact with the tissues so it does not crush, tear, or bruise them the way traditional surgical methods do resulting in less swelling and scarring.
Less chances of infection - the laser's energy sterilizes the incision site with its high temperature beam.
Surgical precision - the laser produces a precisely focused light beam. This accuracy allows for vaporization of cells while causing minimal damage to healthy adjacent tissues.
Quicker recovery - the combination of the above attributes results in a quicker post-operative recovery time, leading to a quicker return to normal activities.
"As part of our commitment to quality care, Cornell Road Veterinary Hospital is pleased to offer laser surgery for the safe, comfortable treatment of our patients," says Dr Yvonne Wikander, "We feel that laser surgery provides the best possible care for our clients and patients."
As veterinarians around the world embrace this technology, their clients and patients will enjoy these associated benefits, also.

Procollar RUCKUS RULZ! TM

Bulldog Tested, Labrador Approved!

Hey my friends, Sir Ruckus here back from a well needed vacation in front of the fireplace!  While I was napping and taking some time to work on my girth, my skin mom decided it was time for me to get back to work! She took off to Florida for the Global Pet Expo and came home with some amazing new products! With those in hand she flipped the switch to my fireplace off and made me check out the latest and greatest in the world of pet products!  I have to admit, there are some pretty cool things coming and I can't wait to get my paws on them and see if they can withstand the bulldog test!
With spring here I decided that it would be a good time to chat about spay and neuter.  This isn't the most fun subject but it is very necessary.  What isn't necessary is that dang cone collar that we have to wear after our surgery.  You know the one... it makes us look like a satellite heading for space... the one that we all sat and laughed at when my sister Libby the Labradork couldn't figure out how to get through the door way because the cone kept hitting the door frame... VERYYYYYY FUNNY... but when I had to wear one ... lets just say it was much better to watch Libby.
Now a company called G&B Marketing has come up with an amazing new solution to the satellite dish and it is called the ProCollar.  It is an inflatable ring that gently slips onto our neck and is secured by a Velcro strap as well as rings our collar can run through.  What this means for us is that we can walk around freely while still protecting our injury or surgery spots.  What this means for you is that it won't be scraping up your walls or furniture.  It is completely washable and will deflate for easy storage incase something happens and we need to use it again.  It comes in 5 sizes and is.... grrrrr, I have to say it.... dog and CAT friendly. Check it out yourself at www.ProCollar.com and make sure you tell them that Ruckus sent you!
Don't forget that if you have a favorite person, place or thing that your pet can't live without you can email me at [email protected]  and maybe I can check it out.  Even as picky as a Bulldog is, you never know, it could be my favorite!

Smell you soon,
Love Ruckus
