Hot Dog!
2011's Record Tournament
"Frankly," summer is just a warm memory, but the 2011 City Tennis Tournament lives on in the record books - a 12% increase in participation with 518 adults and 134 juniors.
The tournament was profitable once again despite increased costs and will provide the funding needed to carry out AAACTA's other programs, including the seven week middle school program.
Thank you, sponsors, volunteers, players, and good sports!

Tales From the Tournament
Share your story
Jason Kerst and Jack Martin-Dyer were ball boys for the Men's Open Final, practicing for the Western & Southern ATP Masters Tournament in Cincinnati in August ... Ritsuko Nakano went home with the winner's trophy in all 3 events ... The hot dog grilling volunteer team marked their 10th year of serving it up at Town Tennis ... Bob Mueller played almost every year over the course of 50 years, beginning in 1948, and today the Sportsmanship Award for the Juniors is named in his memory.Have a Tournament Story? 2011 Ann Arbor City Tournament From AAACTA President, Barbara Wasneski Did you know that the first Ann Arbor City Tournament was in 1919? It's unclear how many participated that first year, but THIS year over 650 players registered - the highest number since AAACTA started running the tournament in 2000. I'd like to congratulate all of the winners and thank everyone who played. Your support is most appreciated. I'd also like to applaud all of our wonderful sponsors and volunteers. Your continued support of the tournament makes it possible for AAACTA to carry out its mission of serving the tennis community throughout the year. It takes the energy of many people to organize this event. This year we were fortunate to have Helen Giordani as our Tournament Director. She did a tremendous job - thank you, Helen! The Tournament Committee that Helen led was a hard working crew who met monthly starting in February and emailed prodigiously through August. Email and other technologies have improved and expanded the tournament, but only because we have a wonderful group of tech-savvy volunteers. They made on-line registration, website postings and email survey solicitations possible. A complete list of this incredible group of people can be found in this newsletter. When you see any of them, please thank them for their hard work! Winter's around the corner - keep in touch with AAACTA's activities by visiting our website. Watch for our e-newsletters. And start planning now to be part of our city tournament tradition in 2012! Sincerely, Barbara Wasneski President |
