A whole lotta learnin' going on ...

USTA Coaches Workshop

On Saturday, April 23, 60 tennis players participated in a Recreational Coaches Workshop sponsored by the USTA at Liberty Athletic Club. Kudos to 11 adult and 10 high school-age coaches from the AAACTA Middle School Intramural Tennis Program who attended the workshop!

The workshop was about the USTA's new Quick Start Tennis program which uses lower compression balls and smaller courts to help new players get in the swing faster.  AAACTA will use Quick Start techniques in its 6th grade program this year.

About our Tournament Theme this year...

Giving Back to the Community-

Community is the theme for the 2011 Ann Arbor Tennis Tournament and it's on the minds of many of us.  As parts of the economy begin to recover, there are many Ann Arbor area folks who will be the last to benefit.  In past years AAACTA has raised funds for those hard hit in New Orleans and Haiti. This year we're thinking of local needs.

AAACTA plans to partner each year with one non-profit, raising awareness of good organizations doing good things.  The Shelter Association of Washtenaw County is AAACTA's 2011 Community Partner.  SAWC gave aid - and hope - to 1500 individuals in 2010.

HOPE HAPPENS HERE

At the Shelter Association's Delonis Center over 30 community organizations work together to provide shelter, employment assistance, housing assistance, medical attention, hygiene services, and benefit assistance to individuals experiencing homelessness.

We hope you'll come out to the AAACTA Fundraiser on May 21.

In addition, here are some other ways to lend a hand:

  • Stay informed with the Shelter Association's e-newsletter.  Sign up here.
  • Make a Wish-List Gift (personal items).  Having a get-together or meeting?  Why not ask participants to bring Wish-List items ... and multiply the good.
