2009 City Tournament Plans in Motion Our Long-Playing Tradition
Ninety years ago 24 men played a single elimination tournament at West Park. They scheduled their own matches, reported their results - and started a bit of tennis history.
This year the Ann Arbor City Tennis Tournament is celebrating its 90th year and you're invited. Come play, be a volunteer, pull up a seat and watch.
Patrick Lee returns as Tournament Director. The Committee is working on details and we're welcoming sponsors. Contact AAACTA if you're interested in joining the fun. 2009 Tournament dates are at left and more info will follow. Women started tournament play in 1922 - another cause for celebration!

2008 Bob Mueller Tennis Award For the love of tennis and the memory of Bob
Matt Kempf speaks for us all about tennis. "It's fun. It's great exercise. I love beating a person with a great shot," he says. Matt, a student at Brighton's Scranton Middle School, is the 2008 recipient of the Mueller Award, and will use his $500 prize to help with tuition at a summer tennis camp. The Mueller Award was established in 1999 by Bob's family and friends as a tribute to his lifelong participation and support of tennis in the Ann Arbor community. The award is presented to a City Junior Tennis Tournament player or a Middle School Program participant based on financial need, potential for development and sportsmanship.
The award was presented by Barbara Mueller at AAACTA's annual meeting. |
