FTA Student Gathering 2009!
April 22-24, 2009
Mark your calendars. This year, the FTA Student Gathering will be held in Fairbanks, Alaska. The three-day event includes hands-on activities, University of Alaska Fairbanks campus tours, an ice-cream social, an opportunity to meet Alaska Native educators, and other fun activities. This is the one time each year that students who participate in FTA Clubs throughout the year, can come together and share and interact with other stuents and Alaska Native educators. It will be a celebration of "growing our own" educators. Register on our FTA website, and for more information, please contact Sonta.

Bilingual Multicultural Education Equity Conference
January 28-30, 2009 Twenty-two FTA students participated in the Bilingual Multicultural Education Equity Conference (BMEEC) this year! FTA was well represented, and BMEEC provided a separate workshop track specifically for FTA students. Special presentations were made by the Alaska Native Edcuators Association (ANEA), Phi Delta Kappa, UAA, UAS, Rural Alaska Honors Institute, and Alaska Pacific University. FTA clubs had the opportunity to present during BMEEC. Nome, Northwest Arctic, and North Slope Borough club representatives presented to a full room of FTA students, FTA advisors and others. To view the Nome student powerpoint presentation (the only one we have available at this time), click here.

Alaska Native Education Grant Application
| Deadline: March 24, 2009
Future Teachers of Alaska has been funded for the past six years by the Alaska Native Education grant. The grant application period is open again, and we plan to reapply for another three years. Our objectives will remain the same and to "grow our own" educators is still our goal. We hope to target all areas of the state, and to have three school districts represented from each region. From the lessons learned, successes and challenges identified from 2003-2009, we will have an even stronger and more solid program across Alaska.
If you have any questions or thoughts about our application, please email or call our office.
