| GLISI Stakeholder Survey Summary & Results |
GLISI recently conducted an Stakeholder Survey using an outside evaluator, a University of Georgia contractor. The purpose of the survey was to survey GLISI clients on GLISI's value, service, and relevance while also providing feedback for continuous improvement. A follow-up focus group with Superintendents will be utilized to "dig deeper" in order to learn how to serve our clients more effectively.
Results: 89% of the respondents have used GLISI products/services or worked with GLISI personnel for more than 1 year. Targeted respondents were Superintendents and other District Leaders. On a 4.0 satisfaction scale, GLISI's value (3.85), relevance (3.92), effectiveness (3.67) are widely recognized as satisfactory to our clients. Various programs won high praise as well including Base Camp and Leadership Summit, Executive Development, Rising Stars, Power of 100, and LPPC with scores all above 3.65. Clients rated their overall satisfaction with GLISI's quality of service to be excellent with a score of 3.81. The majority of our clients also indicated future partnerships with GLISI and willingness to recommend our products and services to others. Overall, the survey was incredibly positive, but also provided us with opportunities to learn more about our client's needs and make improvements. The results from the survey will be used in a focus group to further gain understanding about issues in which GLISI can improve.
Thank you again to all those who participated and for supporting our commitment to continuous improvement. |
| GLISI's Base Camp & Leadership Summit: Update and Openings |
In February, GLISI's Cohort 28 finished up its Leadership Summit work at the mountain only to start the work in their districts and schools. This year's three Cohorts reached 436 leaders and 35 districts and included enthusiastic districts, hard-working teacher leaders, and larger than life leadership teams. GLISI appreciates the support and the dedication these districts demonstrated in Cohorts 26, 27 & 28.
Good news: GLISI is sensitive to the current economic crisis. With that in mind, GLISI will increase the number of Scholarship seats we will offer for the 2010-2011 Cohort season. The applications for 2011-2012 are now available online at our website, www.glisi.org and due May 4th. Base Camp and Leadership Summit, the cornerstone of GLISI's leadership development experience, provide a systemic process that accelerates progress toward your district mission by engaging key stakeholders in team-based improvement. This process, when applied to your current and emerging improvement strategies, builds leader skills and commitment, develops a common language, and strengthens collaboration to meet and exceed identified goals.
Stakeholders gave Base Camp and Leadership Summit a satisfaction score of 3.90 on a 4.00 scale in our recent Stakeholder Engagement Survey. Participants consistently tell us that Base Camp and Leadership Summit represent the best professional training they have ever attended, and their results show we have a process that works. Applications are now being accepted and due May 4th, click here for more information. |

| GLISI Success Case: Clay County School Leaders Use Data to Drive Rsults |
With the help of GLISI's breakthrough processes, programs, and consulting, districts all over the state are improving student achievement and organizational effectiveness. GLISI Performance Consultants are documenting these results through Dr. Robert O. Brinkerhoff's Success Case Methodology.
How can effectively analyzing data change results in your district? Clay County implemented data-focused teams throughout the school district upon completion of Base Camp and Leadership Summit. The teams collaborated regularly to analyze summative and formative student achievement data. Student achievment increased across the board in all subgroups especially in Math and ELA. For instance, 4th grade Math increased 39.5% in 3 years. Read more about how data analysis with a commitment to collaboration and teamwork has helped one school district make significant achievement gains for all students across all grades.

GLISI has recently updated its website to include pictures and belief statements from our staff. Please visit our website to meet our staff and learn about our passions for education leadership.
GLISI is proud to announce that Senior Performance Consultant, Scott Cowart has recently been named the Superintendent of Carroll County Schools, Georgia. Cowart, a former Superintendent of Monroe County started his education career in Carroll County in 1985 as a teacher and basketball coach before becoming an assistant principal in 1991 and principal in 1994. Returning to the district that has helped shaped his career as an education leader is an exciting move for Cowart and his family. Cowart will start his three-year contract June 1st, 2010. GLISI will miss Cowart's guidance and expertise, but we're also excited to see the work Carroll County will do in the next few years under Cowart's leadership. Congratulations, too, to current Superintendent John Zauner upon his retirement and new opportunity with GAEL. |
| Performance Tip |
Implication Maps can help predict or premeditate future outcomes and impacts.
Implication maps are cognitive maps that are used to solve problems based on people's knowledge -- both experts and local people. These maps are qualitative models of a system, consisting of variables and the causal relationships between those variables. The maps allow leaders to: -Examine the perceptions of different stakeholders -Facilitate the development of participatory plans, -Determine the wants and desires for outcomes by those engaged -Intentionally build and devolve ownership in order to achieve: o More confidence in decision making and planning o Higher stakeholder engagement and satisfaction o Improved organizational communication o Enhanced involvement of employees at all levels in organizational direction setting o Increased support for organizational change efforts o Reduced costs of data collection o More effective action planning o Reduced time to make effective decisions o Historical record of input into decisions o Better understanding of potential future outcomes o Reduction of negative unintended consequences The Process: Facilitators support interviewees to complete cognitive maps in 40-90 minutes on average. The process produces a map or visual model that predicts outcomes associated with decisions and actions. The facilitator captures and analyses the language used to express predictions in regard to timing and certainty and to assess willingness. The process mines points of view to help build consensus. Implication Mapping offers many advantages for modeling including: -the ability to include abstract and aggregate variables in models, -the ability to model relationships which are not known with certainty, -the ability to model complex relationships which are full of feedback loops, -the ease and speed of obtaining and combining different knowledge sources, and of running different policy options.
