Emancipation Proclamation

For four event-packed days, September 20-23, Gettysburg College, the Gettysburg Foundation, and the Gettysburg National Military Park are sponsoring a commemoration of the Emancipation Proclamation issued by Abraham Lincoln on Septemer 22, 1862. Learn more here.

On display will be (thanks to the Gilder Lehrman Institute) a Lincoln-signed copy of the Proclamation and an original Thirteenth Amendment signed by Congressmen and Senators who supported the legislation.

September 21, 22 and 23 will feature a "Civil War Roadshow" at Gettysburg College with exhibits on slavery and President Lincoln.  The movie "Glory" will be screened on the 22nd at the Majestic Theatre in Gettysburg.

Also featured will be presentations on slavery, the Civil War, and the Emanicipation Proclamation, featuring experts such as Dr.  James McPherson, Dr. Allen Guelzo and by Dr. Scott Hancock.

Museum Rotation Completed

The very first Artifact Rotation at the new Gettysburg National Military Park Museum was completed on September 7.
