Spangler Farm work is underway!

The George Spangler Farm has been undergoing a great deal of work in preparation for the rehabilitation of the farm to its 1863 appearance.  Removal of the non-historic structures has already made a dramatic difference. Construction is almost ready to be put out to bid and work on the summer kitchen, where Confederate General Lewis Armistead died,  is slated for October 2012.

The work on the summer kitchen will include removal of the non-historic portions of the building (an extension and roof) and rehabilitation of the original beautiful stone structure. A roof close to the original will be added, and the Foundation hopes to have the building ready for tours by late Spring 2013.

...your 2013 Calendar which will be sent to Friends members in early September. It contains Friends events for 2013 and some wonderful pictures that blend past and present as we look back at the 150 years that have passed since those nation-changing three days in July 1863. Important reunions and reconciliations are featured as well as some of the preservation challenges that developed over 150 years. We record with pride the response of Friends of Gettysburg to those challenges. 150 years of reunion, reconciliation, and restoration. It's a great story.
