Can't get enough volunteer opportunities?

Fencebuilding along Emmitsburg Road

Only Friends of Gettysburg could regard really hard work in the blazing summer sun as fun. But you do, and already the June 2012 Volunteer Workday is fully booked. Therefore we are now offering additional opportunities -
  • Volunteer Service Vacations. We will be offering 2 service vacation weeks in 2012 (May and September) that will include accomodations, meals and several days working in the project area - with time allowed for you to explore Gettysburg.
  •  Volunteer Service Days. We are always looking for Friends to help us with a variety of projects throughout the year.

For these opportunities visit the Friends website -- or click here-- to learn more.

So if you missed out on the June workday, you can still join other Friends at what we love to do - lavish TLC on the battlefield that means so much to history - and to us.

Now the Weather Can't Spoil Your Visit

There is a new service available! At the end of March a weather station was mounted on the roof of the Visitor Center to track 27 different weather parameters and connected to our homepage. For information on weather conditions in Gettysburg go to the Foundation website and scroll down the homepage to the WeatherBug logo.

Harrisburg's abc27 television station, WHTM is also providing Visitor Center weather forecasts; and you can check weather anywhere by visiting www.weatherbug.com and typing in a zip code.

If you are in the Visitor Center and heading out on a hike you might want to know if there are any weather surprises in store! Our Member Services Desk has an easy-to-read LCD display with a 3-day forecast, Doppler radar, local weather alerts and live and time-lapse views from the WeatherBug web cam on our roof.

We hope this new service will help you choose - sunscreen or rain gear -and be sure you got it right!
