Eisenhower Windmill Reinstalled
Thanks to a $5,000 donation from the Gettysburg Foundation, the Eisenhower National Historic Site is sporting a brand new windmill.  For three months the iconic landmark of the farm had been dismantled because of deterioration.  It has just been replaced and, while it's brand new, it looks just the way Ike and Mamie would have remembered it.

Thanks to the hard work of the Gettysburg Foundation and National Park Service it will be a part of the historic site for the next 80 years!.

Register now for the first Adams Seminar of 2012!  The program is "Following the Trolley Bed of History: The Gettysburg Electric Railway" presented by Licensed Battlefield Guide Sue Boardman.

The morning lecture and afternoon tour will cover the controversial Gettysburg Electric Railway which emerged in the 1890's.  While the railway was designed to offer a convenient way for visitors to get around the battlefield, its construction altered the landscape in many places, some of which can still be seen today.

The seminars will be offered on March 24 and March 31.  The programs are limited to 44 participants, so register now to reserve a space!

The Great Task Before Us

If you enjoy learning about the lives of the soldiers, sailors and civilians who endured the Civil War, then we highly recommend checking out the Friends of Gettysburg blog the Great Task Before Us.  Every day features fascinating facts about events 150 years ago, and stories about the people who lived through them.

Friends of Gettysburg members can even submit their own ancestors to be featured on the blog!  Click here and here to see examples of how Great Task is helping to commemorate the Civil War 150th and honoring the ancestors of our members.
