Haiti Earthquake Update
Shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, a major
earthquake hit the tiny island nation of Haiti.
The epicenter was near the capital city of Port-Au-Prince. News reports show massive destruction and
major loss of life.
Haiti is the poorest nation in the western hemisphere. FAME has been involved in Haiti for a number
of years and has many partners and friends in Haiti. We have received updates from most of our
partners and they are safe but report much destruction of their facilities.
FAME staff participated Wednesday in a conference call of 16
medical mission organizations organized by the Technical Exchange for Christian Healthcare. Assessment teams from some
of these organizations are either on the ground in Haiti or will be soon. The consensus of the group is to wait until
these assessment teams can report in before we decide on a plan of action so we
can make informed decisions. This may
take a week or longer before we know how best to respond to these overwhelming
needs. Updates on how the situation in
Haiti and how you can be involved in relief efforts will be sent out as we
receive more information.
FAME will be involved in both relief efforts in Haiti and
long term reconstruction. Please keep
the people of Haiti in your prayers.
100% of all contributions given to FAME designated for Haiti relief will
be used in this effort.
