Forty million is a large figure to wrap your mind around, but that's how many
people throughout the world are HIV positive. Of the 8,000 people who die each
day as a result of the AIDS epidemic, more than 1,300 of them are children. The
UN estimates that by the year 2010, 25 million children will be orphans because
of AIDS.
The numbers are overwhelming, but each number represents a
person whom God loves. The good news is that Christ's Church is doing more than
ever before to minister to those whose lives are affected by
HIV/AIDS.
FAME and CMF invite you to a one-day conference simply called
Your Church and AIDS, which will focus on the Church's compassionate response to
the global AIDS emergency. You will be equipped with practical ways that you
and your church can minister to those lives touched by AIDS at home and around
the world.
This year, the conference will be on Saturday, April 25, from 8 a.m.
to 4:15 p.m., at Chapel Rock Christian Church, Indianapolis, Indiana.

FAME IS RESPONDING TO THE GLOBAL AIDS CRISIS by Dr. Tom Alley, Director of Medical Services
I clearly recall back
in 1981 and 1982 sitting in scientific meetings and hearing papers presented by
clinicians and researchers about a newly recognized disease called AIDS. How little I realized at that time the
magnitude of a worldwide devastation this would become and the number of lives
that would be claimed by the disease despite the most intense research
efforts. Over the ensuing 28 years, more
resources of time, money, skill, and brainpower have been spent on HIV/AIDS
than on any other illness in history. More...

Ivory Coast AIDS Laboratory Opens!
Justin Kouadio is a 30 year old cocoa
farmer from a small village in Ivory
Coast.
He and his pregnant wife just found out they are HIV positive. They need a blood test to start life-saving
treatment and to prevent the infection of their child. In the Abengourou region of Ivory Coast,
this test has been rarely available. Unfortunately,
his story is not unique. Due to lack of laboratory availability, many do not
receive the care they need in time. More... |
