Amazing Times at White River Youth Camp
An Open Letter From Nathan Dahlstrom, Unit Director Basic Care

Baptism at Camp 2009 Dear Friends,

We had another great year out at White River Youth Camp.  We took 34 kids and 4 staff, Danny Pectol, Unit Director for the Assessment Center, Trey Paden, Recreation Coordinator, Holly Hayes, child care worker in the Mason Cottage, and me.   I am Nathan Dahlstrom, Unit Director.

We navigated the "character building"  elements of the place such as dehydration, sunburn, and critters.  Everyone had a safe and great time.  The counselors were an especially great group this year, and each of our kids were exposed to excellent examples of Christian young men and women, not to mention the Bible teachers, great Bible lessons, and the spiritual skits, plays and singing that went on throughout the week.

The highlight of the week was that several of our youngsters decided to put on Christ in baptism.  Two of our staff who work in Mason Cottage, Nathan Young and Cliff Wilke, are also multi-year counselors at White River.  Each of them baptized one of our kids last week.  Nathan Young baptized David, age 13, from Hardwick Cottage.  Elgin Bailey, Hardwick Cottage housedad, has laid a great foundation for the spiritual lives of the boys in his cottage; in fact, several of his boys were eager to be baptized last week, but we felt they needed a little more time and study.  Cliff Wilke baptized Maria, age 14, from Minton Cottage.  Maria is very mature young lady and understands her need for Jesus.

I baptized three other Home kids as well --- I'sheana, age 14 from Baker Cottage; Krystauna, age 13 from Minton Cottage; and Sabrina, age 13 from Mason Cottage.  Each of these studied with their Bible teachers and me individually.  I am proud of all of them and am confident of their desire to follow God in their lives.

Thank you to our Development Department, who tell our story to you, our donors.  Thank you to the Accounting Department for keeping the money straight and cutting the checks.  Thank you to our houseparents for laying the daily spiritual foundation for these kids.   And thanks most of all to you, our friends, who support the work of the Home with your prayers, your friendship, and your generous gifts.  We are all partakers in this great work for God.  It takes every single one of us to make it happen.

If you would like to encourage David, Maria, I'sheana, Krystauna, and Sabrina with a personal note, you may send it to them in care of The Children's Home of Lubbock, PO Box 2824, Lubbock, Texas  79408.  And please continue to pray for them as they grow in wisdom and in favor with God.

Thank you.
