Getting Ready for Summer
Though it's only March, our staff is in full-court press getting ready for summer. This month we have begun lifeguard training in preparation for the heavy use the Boverie Pool will see this summer.
Our safety requirement is that we must maintain at least 4 guards each summer, and in order to be sure that we are able to meet that standard, we will train more than four. Since all students sixteen years old and older are required to hold jobs during the summer, we also offer lifeguard training to those students who want to pursue summer jobs as guards. In addition, we usually train guards for White River Youth Camp in exchange for some camper credit.
Debra Rogers, Director of Education and Recreation, is our designated trainer. She is a certified Water Safety Instructor and spends a great deal of her time in the spring training lifeguards. This service, were we forced to go elsewhere for it, would cost the Home $185 per trainee.
