Greetings!

As a subscriber to the Palmetto Cycling Coalition and Safe Streets email updates, you are the first to find out about an exciting and important development in our Safe Streets Save Lives campaign.

What's this all about?

Spcc logoafe Streets Save Lives (SSSL), a project of the PCC and Bike law, is the first initiative of its kind that is working towards reducing the number of car-bicycle crashes and deaths on South Carolina roads. Phase I of this project was launched in 2011, in which we debuted four short videos on bicycling and the law, launched the SSSL website, and developed/printed educational materials to coincide the campaign.

We are on the verge of launching phase II of the campaign, in which we are making the issues of bicycling and South Carolina law more mainstream through strategic media, marketing and educational efforts. With phase II, our ultimate goal is to make more in SC familiar with bicycling and the law.

In the spirit of a true public/private partnership, PCC and Bike law are finalizing a grant with two state agencies, which will allow us to collectively pursue one common mission: reducing the number of car-bicycle crashes, fatalities and injuries on South Carolina roads.

What's to come
This phase of the campaign spans a year, and in this time we will be utilizing a mix of paid media, donated media, and social media to broaden our public outreach. The Safe Streets message will be broadcast via television, smartphone, computer, and grassroots educational efforts. We will be layering these efforts with strategic public relations to tell a more colorful, layered story about South Carolina's progressive bike laws, its cyclists, and how we can all share the road.

We Need You!

Over the next several weeks, the Safe Streets Team will be pretty busy finalizing the marketing and media plans for the campaign. During this time, there are some simple ways that you can help us grow this campaign and movement to make our streets safer. Thanks for all you do!
  1. Ride your bike! It's springtime and a great time to get out and ride-and the more people on the road, the safer it will become. As you ride, obey all traffic laws and respect others' right to use the road. Be the change by setting an example through your actions to be lawful.
  2. Consider writing a letter to the editor or opinion article about bicycling. The topics are endless--ways to stay safe on-bike these summer months; how to beat gas prices by going by bike; ideas for family fun this summer on bike--email us and we'll gladly furnish any data and help you write an effective piece.
  3. Finally, if you haven't already, follow us on Follow us on Twitter , Like us on Facebook and View our videos on YouTube . We also just launched a Pinterest page--follow us here, too!  Find us on Pinterest
Stay tuned for more exciting updates in the weeks to come and to find out how you can help grow our campaign. Thanks for your support!
