 President Carter endorses North Korea building project

National press is reporting former President Jimmy Carter's endorsement of the Fuller Center's initiative in North Korea.

"They've already gotten permission from the government of North Korea to come in; they've already had a team there to assess the construction possibilities," Carter said. "We're just thankful that we'll be able to get some houses built in North Korea for people in need."

Carter's words came at the opening remarks of Habitat for Humanity International's 27th annual Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter Work Project. The Carters first partnered with Habitat in 1984 after Millard Fuller, founder of both Habitat and the Fuller Center, visited the Carters in their home to discuss how the former first couple could be involved in the young housing nonprofit.

The Fuller Center is sending its first team of volunteers to North Korea in a few weeks to begin building 50 homes in a rural area called Osan-Ri.
