October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Did you know that in the last 10 years, at least 82 Rhode Islanders died as a result of domestic violence, and that in 2010 and 2011 alone there were 22 deaths?
On October 1, the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence launched a NO MORE campaign. According to executive director Deb DeBare, "RICADV is calling for community involvement to end domestic violence and sexual assault. That is the heart of the NO MORE campaign, which asks everyone the question, 'what will you do?' and stresses intolerance to any kind of abuse. Every Rhode Islander has a role in preventing domestic violence."
The No More RI website was created, based on a national model, to help end domestic violence and sexual assault here in Rhode Island, and provide tools to those who want to take a stand and pledge no more. Join the Rhode Island movement, and visit www.nomoreri.org today! And, be sure to check out the extensive calendar of upcoming events.

Every day, in so many ways, the beauty industry (and the media in general) tell women and girls that being admired, envied and desired based on their looks is a primary function of true womanhood. The beauty template women are expected to follow is extremely narrow, unrealistic and frequently hazardous to their health. The Love Your Body campaign, sponsored by the NOW Foundation, challenges the message that a woman's value is best measured through her willingness and ability to embody current beauty standards. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the Love Your Body campaign. For ideas about what you can do to raise awareness about the importance of positive body image,
