Upcoming rally: 4/28 - Unite Against the War on Women - Rhode Island
Women and men from across the state will gather this Saturday, April 28th at the State House from 10am to 2pm to rally against the current challenges to women's rights that include both anti-woman legislation and threatening rhetoric in the media. The event will include guest speakers including elected officials and our very own president Carolyn Mark. More information here.
Tell Your State Senator: Strangulation is a Felony! Vote on 4/24
The Senate Judiciary Committee meets on Tuesday to vote on SB 2147, which classifies strangulation as a felony and therefore increases the potential penalty for this type of domestic violence. Tell your state senator that stopping domestic violence is a priority and that strangulation is a serious crime! Does your senator sit on the Senate Judiciary Committee? Call him or her! Check here to find your legislator. Your quick call will make a big difference in letting your legislator know how important this issue is.

Tax Fairness Hearing on 4/24, Lobby Day 4/26
RI NOW has joined the LIFT RI Coalition (Lasting Investment through Fair Taxes) to help ensure that we have an adequate and fair revenue stream with which we can invest in Rhode Island, including programs that support low income women move toward economic self-sufficiency. The Tax Fairness Bill (H7729) will be heard in the House Committee on Finance on Tuesday, April 24. Join us in support of a fair tax structure! 4:30pm in State House Room 35.
