Tell legislative leaders: Don't cut essential domestic violence services!
The House Finance Committee is meeting at noon on Thursday to discuss a 25% cut to funding for community service grants. This includes the state funding for essential domestic violence services in the courts and services for children who witness domestic violence. Call Chairman Helio Melo at 401-222-2738 and ask him not to cut funding for domestic violence services in Rhode Island. Your quick call will make a big difference in letting him know how important this issue is. Does your representative sit on the House Finance Committee? Call him or her, too! Abortion bills being heard on 4/11
Seven bills that would restrict women's reproductive rights, including the ultrasound bill and the 24 hour waiting period bill, will be heard in the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, April 11. RI NOW will be testifying against these bills, and in support of two pro-women bills, along with many other coalition partners. Does your representative sit on the House Judiciary Committee? Support improvements to the RI Works Program, and help low income women and their families: hearing on 4/11
The Rhode Island Works program is the state's "welfare program." Senate Bill 2764 would dramatically improve the program by streamlining the program administration and improving employment outcomes by allowing the parent to enter into an employment plan after eligibility for cash assistance has been established.
