TOHO WATER AUTHORITY Phases Condition Assessment Program for a 13 mile, 36-inch Transmission Main Case Study - SmartBall
Toho Water Authority operates an important 13 mile effluent main that they performed a condition assessment project on to better understand the condition of their asset. The 36-inch diameter prestressed (AWWA C301), lined cylinder pipe had several challenges when performing the condition assessment. The pipe cannot be removed from service. There are 22 butterfly valves and the pipe has significant overgrowth which hindered viewing appurtenances and other over-the-line work. In addition, limited information was available regarding the design of the pipe. To address these challenges and provide an understanding of the condition of the pipe a three phased program was implemented.
